Prototheca is a unicellular veriety of a chloric algae exists worldwiee。 Davies et al。 reported the first case of protothecosis caused by Prototheca zopfii in 1964 and it has since then been considered as a rare clinical opportunistic pathogen which can casue animal and human protothecosis。 Nearly 100 cases of protothecosis has b een reported so far and it showed a tendency of increasing, especially the systematic infection caused by Prototheca。 The commonly reported Prototheca in literature including four species, namely P。 filamentu, P。 stagnora, P。 zopfii, and P。 wickerhamii。 The latter two are human pathogens。 In this article, a strain of Prototheca was isolated from a nodule specimen on the face of a woman patient。 The specimen was directly smeared, isolated and cultured, examined under light, SEM AND TEM for its ultrastructural characteriestics。 The tissue sections were studied histopathogenically for its pathogenicity。 The organism was also examined morphologically and biologically and finally identified asPrototheca wickerhamii。 Fourty eigth mirco-stuctural pictures of Prototheca wickerhamii were also included in this article。
