Design of corrugated sheets exposed to fire

The load bearing resistance of roof structure made from corrugated sheets can reach R 60。 It is achieved by low stress in the corrugated sheets at ambient temperature, which are usually designed to meet the SLS criteria (deflection)。 Sufficient resistance and stiffness of the connections contribute to development of the membrane effect。 Finite element models can be used for prediction of the behaviour at elevated temperature with good accuracy。 The design models are simple and reliable for practical use。 Two design models are available depending on the type of connection。 For unrestrained support, the model is based on bending resistance of the effective section。 When thermal elongation/contraction is restrained, membrane model is used to predict the behaviour。 The resistance and stiffness of the bolted connections and the supporting structure should be checked in this case。
