Seeds of E。 canadensis were collected from 51 locations in orchards and non-cropping areas throughout Korea。 Resistance of biotypes Kumsung and Jookyo were 53。2 to 37。1% higher that that of biotype Joongyang。 Activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase were higher in biotype Kumsung than in biotype Joongyang。 Content of reduced ascorbic acid was higher in biotype Kumsung, but that of reduced glutathione was higher in biotype Joongyang。 Therefore, one of paraquat-resistant mechanism may be due to protective enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase as well as contents of ascorbic acid and glutathione。
