Prediction of the Particle Size Distribution in Continuous Flow Particulate Processes

The present study provides a comprehensive investigation on the application of the Galerkin on finite elements method (GFEM) to the solution of the dynamic population balance equation (PBE) in continuous flow reactors。 Specifically, continuous paniculate processes undergoing particle aggregation or/and particle growth are examined。 The performance of the numerical method (i。e。, its accuracy and stability) is assessed by a direct comparison of the calculated particle size distributions (PSDs) to available steady-state analytical solutions。 Numerical simulations are carried out over several residence times until the dynamic solution of the PBE converges to the steady-state analytical solution。
