A practical MR fluid with ideal comprehensive property were synthesized with a meso-scale carbonyl iron powder modified by phosphating treatment, mineral oil, and the additives such as the dispersing agent, thixotropic agent, and solid lubricant。 The properties of MR fluid developed were as follows: The off-state viscosity was not excess 1。5 Pa。s (γ ≤ 10s-1)。 For a flux density B~ 0。5Tesla, the fluid exhibited yield stresses of ~60kPa。 The soft sedimentation formed after laying long time is easy to be redispersed by weak field or mechanical force。 The fluid wear-resistance was improved by additive of solid-lubricant and could sustain millions of cycles。
