EFFECT OF ALKALI RATIO ON ALKALINE SODIUM SULFITE-ANTHRAQUINONE PULPING OF CORN BAST

The effect of alkali ratio of the cooking liquor on alkaline sodium sulfite-anthraquinone pulping of corn bast was studied。 The results indicated that the delignification rate and the carbohydrate dissolution rate increased with the increase of alkali ratio。 However, the selectivity of delignification became worse as the alkali ratio increased。 The highest reaction activity for lignin removal can be achieved at alkali ratio of 0。5。 At this level AS-AQ corn bast pulp had the lowest Kappa number and the highest degree of delignification。 On the other hand, the brightness of unbleached pulp decreased with the increase of alkali ratio, and the intrinsic viscosity increased at the beginning and then decreased when alkali ratio increased。 Therefore, optimum alkali ratio for AS-AQ pulping is 0。5。
