Environmental disasters of communities on hillslope occurred atKaohsiung metropolitan areas have been recognized not only as a bigissue today but also a serious concern by the resident at Kaohsiung cityin southwestern Taiwan。 The administration of Kaohsiungmetropolitan containing the area of 2645。60 km2 includes bothKaohsiung city and county governments。 However, Most of hillslopearea are located at Kaohsiung county with 1970。62 km2。 Highlyweathered geological formation, uneven distribution of rainfall intensity, steep geomorphology and intensive human activities have beenidentified as the predominated factors contributing to the environmentaldisasters of community on Kaohsiung slopeland。Applications of GIS integrated with GPS and RS technology would benecessary for this research。 This project were also critical to establishan assessment model of environmental hazard database system for thecommunities on hillslope in Kaohsiung metropolitan。 These results givea foundamental guideline of disaster prevention。 Hopefully, thisguideline can help Kaohsiung city and county governments set up theirown disaster prevention systems to keep urban safe and welldevelopment in the future。
