An assessment of tourist destinations for Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, China

Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (Gannan)， which is located in the southwest of Gansn province of China， has a laggard economy。 Developing tourism is an efficient way of eliminating poverty for Gannan。 For tourism， resource is a fundamental and core factor。 In this paper， using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and principal component analysis (PCA)， thirteen important tourist destinations of Gannan are assessed and clustered on 14 factors。 Results show that the first bend of the Yellow River and Labrang monastery have a high quality， thus they are at top in ranking。 The thirteen destinations are clustered into four groups in PCA。 The high-quality destinations are along nation line 213 and near city Hezuo。 The undeveloped infrastructure construction， such as the lack of traffic， is main factor of limiting tourism in Gannan。 The study provides a reference in planning Gannan tourism。
