Studies on the Classification of the Grade of Shrink and Expansion for the Expansive Soils Based on Bayes Discriminant Analysis Method

In China, expansive soil is widely distributed which can cause great damage to engineering building and cause immeasurable economic loss to all countries。 The same difficult problem often exists in coal industry in China, such as the control of the expansive rock surrounding tunnel。How to distinguish the grade of shrink and expansion for the expansive soils exactly and quickly is the initial and essential work for engineering construction in expansive soil area。Five indexes of chemical elements, such as content of clay grain, content of powder grain, liquid limit, solid limit and plasticity index, are taken as the key factors。Based on the Bayes discriminant analysis theory, a classification model of expansive is established in this paper, and Linear discriminant functions are obtained by choosing 16 different examples from Ankang area。 The results obtained by the forecast model in case studies are well according with the practical situations, which prove the utility and efficient of the method。It may provide a new method for the classification of the grade of shrink and expansion for the expansive soils。
