Chinese standard fulvic acid (CSFA) from the forest soil having regional characteristics of northeast China has been designated by the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences。To better understand its environmental behavior and interaction mechanisms with contaminants,it is necessary to separate the CSFA into different fractions by reducing its heterogeneity。With XAD-8 resin adsorption method, five fractions of CSFA were obtained by sequential elution with pH 3,5,7,9,and 13 buffers, respectively。CSFA and its fractions were characterized by elemental analysis,FT-IR,and 13C-NMR。The results show that the fractions eluted at higher pH have fewer carboxylic groups, and more alkyl and aromatic groups, than fractions eluted at lower pH。The fractionation of CSFA,as well as its free future availability, will benefit to investigations of the environmental behavior of soil FA in China。
