In order to explore the adaptation mechanisms improving the apple leaf optical systems to drought stress with fresh orchard grass covering,1-a-potted 'Hanfu' apple trees were used as materials, and there were three treatments treated with covering fresh grass and N fertilizer。Chlorophyll a (Chl a) fluorescence induction kinetics and light absorbance at 820rim were analyzed。The results showed that the photosynthetic performance index (PIABs),the maximal oxidation-reduction capability of PSⅠ (△I/Io),the density of reaction centers (RC/CSo),the probability that an absorbed photon would move an electron into the electron transport chain beyond QAˉ ((¢)Eo) and the probability that a trapped exciton moves an electron into the electron transport chain beyond QAˉ (Ψo) of mulching + nitrogen treatment (C1N1) and mulching separately (C1N0)were significantly higher than the control (C0N0); the minimum chlorophyll florescence (Fo),relative variable fluorescence at the K-step and J-step (Wk and Vj) and the quantum efficiency of heat dissipation ((¢)Do) of C1N1 and C1N0 were significantly lower than C0N0。This suggested that straw mulching and N fertilizer significantly mitigated the damage of drought stress on PS Ⅱ and PS Ⅰ。
