MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF TiAl ALLOYS PRODUCED BY POWDER METALLURGY

Ti-43Al-5V-4Nb alloy and Ti_2AlC/TiAl composite are prepared by different powder metallurgy process。 For the former, the process route consisted of rapid heating and forging。 The room temperature tensile properties of Ti-43Al-5V-4Nb alloy was investigated。 The yield strength and tensile strength is tested to be 376。75Mpa and 442。96Mpa。 The elongation is estimated to be 0。27%。 Ti_2AlC/TiAl composite were synthesized by mechanical milling and spark plasma sintering。 It was found that the microstructure of Ti_2AlC/TiAl composite synthesized at 950℃ consists of continuous three dimensional network of Ti_2AlC phase and equiaxed γ-TiAl grains。 The compressive strength of Ti_2AlC/TiAl composite is tested to be 2217Mpa, which is lower than that of Ti-49A1 based alloy (2405Mpa)。 The ductility of TiAl based composite can be improved by the addition of Carbon nanotubes。
