In this research, an electronic control unit for diesel/methanol compound combustion (DMCC) is developed and the comparison of performances of a modified public light bus running on pure diesel and DMCC mode is investigated considering fuel economy, starting and acceleration, and high-gear acceleration。 The experiment results show that methanol can replace 35。1% diesel by injecting methanol into intake manifold to form homogeneous mixture of methanol and air so as to be ignited by pilot diesel in cylinder, and the acceleration capability of the bus is obviously better and fuel economy is marginally improved。 The vehicle acceleration smoke characteristic is dramatically improved。 The electronic control unit has great reliability。
