This study employs the generalized ordered logit model to analyze the determinants of individuals’efforts for energy saving in transportation and residence。 We use the world-wide data to analyze the globalmodel and compare energy-saving behavior among some Asian countries, including Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Philippines。 We obtain the following results。 First, the coefficients for the income variable are significantand negative in the global, Japan, and Korea models, which indicates that high-income people would have alower level of effort for energy saving than low-income people。 People would tend to pursue a better materiallife standard and consume more energy when their economic ability increases。 Second, the educationvariable has no effects on individuals’ efforts for energy saving in transportation and residence。 People withhigher education would not have more intention to save energy。 Strategies for energy conservation shouldfocus on environmental education in school。 The formal education should emphasize the importance ofenvironmental protection and enlighten the environmental impacts of human activities。 Third, the elder, female, and unmarried people tend to make more efforts for energy saving than the younger, male, andmarried people。 Urban residents have more intention to save energy than rural residents。 Forth, environmental knowledge and environmental concern have significantly positive effects on energy-savingbehaviors。 But, environmental efficacy and risk consciousness do not have significant effects onenergy-saving behavior in transportation for these Asian countries。 There exists a gap between environmentalattitude and behavior。 Our results show that it is more challenging to change people’s behavior patterns intransportation than in residence。 The policy makers should pay more attention to induce people’s travelbehavior toward energy conservation。
