With the development of science and technology， the application of 3D printing technology is becoming more and more extensive。 3D printing technology has a very important position in various fields such as manufacturing， art， and medicine。 The purpose of this article is to integrate 3D printing technology into the teaching practice of model design， use 3D printing technology to assist teaching， and improve students' comprehensive practical ability。 This article takes the sophomore students of product design major in a college as the research object and investigates the practical application of 3D printing technology in model design teaching。 After analysis， it can be seen that the superiority of 3D printing technology in model design teaching practice is more obvious。 92。91% of students think that 3D printing technology will better integrate theoretical knowledge and practice; 88。98% of students think that it improves practical operation ability and creativity; however， 66。93% of students believe that professional practical demonstration courses are needed， and teachers need help to make more elaborate works。 The application of 3D printing technology promotes the improvement of the application level of 3D printing technology for students while improving the teaching quality of model design and achieves a better teaching effect。
