CHINA-LAOS TRADE PATTERN CHANGE AND ITS INFLUENCING FACTORS

Nowadays,since the expansion of globalization and WTO,many countries pay more attention to import and export with other countries as they have an impact on each country's economy.Of course this globalization helps improve ones'economy,but on the other hand,it also increases the number of ones'competitors as well.Therefore,it is import for each country to understand the situation of its market,import,and export.In order to understand more about their market,import,and export,many academic researchers have studied about competitiveness between countries using various methods.Having this in mind,it is interesting to understand China's and Laos's status on import and export as well as their level of competitiveness because they both are main exporters and imports of the world.Therefore,following the other research and studies,this paper studies industrial competitiveness and complementarity between China and Laos.Competitiveness is studied by the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index(RCA)index.It is found that they are not competitive but have their own advantages as it can be seen in the HS result(1992to2016).By adopting the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index(RCA),Harmonize System(HS)models,Gravity Model,this paper has made an empirical analysis of the comparative advantage and complementarity between China and Laos.The results indicate that the exporting commodity of China and Laos reflect the characteristics of the resource endowment of each country.Policy implications are proposed accordingly based on these findings.
