摘要
Indonesia and China relation has been up and down throughout history.After1998,their relationship begins to improve,and more cooperation has been built between these countries,not only in the economic sector but also in politics.Diplomacy undoubtedly plays an essential role in the relationship between Indonesia and China.Hence,it was interesting to see how Chinese cultural diplomacy worked in Indonesia primarily throughone of the tools,which is the Confucius Institute.As for now,there are seven Confucius Institutes in Indonesia after being established since2007.With the presence of seven CIs in Indonesia,it shows that China has started to build a closer relationship with Indonesia.However,it also important to note that CI is one of many forms of China's effort to build a closer relationship with Indonesia.After more than a decade of its establishment,it is interesting to know what are Confucius institutions role in Indonesia-China relations and are they contributed on improving Indonesia China Relations.This research will be design as a qualitative research,where the specific method that will be used is the case study.Specific Confucius Institute in Indonesia will be treated as a social phenomenon in this research.Followed up with data collecting methods,which were done in two ways,Qualitative interviewing and literature studies.We found a particular role could contribute to Indonesia-China relations.Confucius Institute as China's media for cultural communication in people to people relation and as cultural diplomacy state to state.However,the contribution in the state level is not so clear because most of their activity was related to the social level.Hence,we found that the Confucius Institute contributes to better relations and communication more significant at the people level and academic institutions level.
