The study was conducted to examine the prospects and challenges of ECOWAS''Security Mechanism. Both questionnaire and structured interview techniques were used to collect data from45respondents from seven(7)institutions in Liberia. The researcher employed a descriptive statistical method to analyze all the study variables using tables, charts, and graphs.Data were coded, entered, and analyzed through SPSS software. The frequency analytical method was also applied to analyze and interpret the structured interview responses. The study established that ECOWAS is seriously challenged to promoting security mechanisms due to the high rate of terrorism and non-compliance from government and warring factions.Other challenges included limited support of logistics and finance toward their deployed troops. The study found out ECOWAS is invested in the vetting process conduct by the panel of investigators during the hiring/selecting of their staff. It showed that ECOWAS promotes regional security governance to restore peace and stability and ensure the free movement of ECOWAS citizenry.
