摘要
Nowadays, Vietnamese young people are interested in global citizen, which could be seen via the increasing number of conferences and workshops about this term organized both online and offline. There are also many organizations that are mainly international schools and private institutions having designed and proposed the specific curriculum to educate the future generation to become global citizens. Unlike globalization, global citizen has not received a sufficient amount of research in International Relations. In the scale of this Master''s thesis, I would like to specifically conduct the research on the question that whether the global citizenship could be compatible with national identity, specifically in the situation of Vietnam. First, I argue that global citizenship could be compatible with national identity because they do not necessarily confront with each other, which could be testified through the understanding of Vietnamese young people about these two terms as well as theoretical proof. Then, my second hypothesis is that their co-existence is possible because the benefit of globalization outweighs its harmfulness to the national identity. The above hypotheses are going to be justified through the combination of relevant theories in Nationalism and Globalism with the analysis of secondary data including news, official media post, and the information from the in-depth interview with typical Vietnamese people who have the conditions to approach global citizen activities. Unlike the previous research concentrating on a large number of data and surveys to see the general situation of Vietnamese awareness among global citizens, this research is going to present a closer and deeper view of how Vietnamese young people recognize, define, and react to this phenomenon.
