While researchers have investigated the causes and correlates of individual differences in procrastination, very few studies have paid attention to how to form teams considering procrastination heterogeneity among team members to maximize team performance. Further, such research has relied on subjective questionnaires as a measurement of individual procrastination and team performance. In this study, we collected data on the daily page views of two course websites. Course A included 38 individuals comprising 15 dyads or triads, while Course B included 55 individuals comprising 20 dyads or triads. We fitted the students' page hits per day to a deadline rush model that quantified individuals' procrastination using an exponential function and employed a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach to investigate the relationships among individual procrastination, procrastination heterogeneity in teams, and team performance. The results show that homogeneous teams of procrastination perform better than heterogeneous teams, regardless of whether the homogeneous teams are composed of high-procrastinated individuals or low-procrastinated individuals. Team variation in procrastination fully mediated the relationship between individual procrastination and team performance. The findings can be applied to team formation mechanisms used by organizations, including schools and industries, to maximize overall team performance.

These disorders decrease worker's productivity, impact industries economically, and cause serious psycho-physical conditions. However, technological advances have leveraged the industry to a novel phase where digitalization and automation provide a new reality. Hence, this industrial transformation may contribute to assists human beings in the workplace with a focus on mental health. This article presents a systematic literature review to investigate studies regarding technologies employed in the care of worker's mental health and the industrial role in this scenario. Three general, three focused, and three descriptive questions highlight the academic progress of industrial concern on mental health, implemented systems and cases, and research challenges. As a result, the review discussed 31 studies, extracted from an initial corpus of 25269, ranging from January 2010 to November 2020. The studies approached stress as the most frequent mental issue in the industry and Support Vector Machine (SVM) as the most used machine learning algorithm, where biomarkers presented the primary data extractors to deal with this theme. Moreover, information fusion methods improved the accuracy of specific cases. However, a growing interest in mental health care has emerged only in recent years, and several challenges require efforts before applying systems in real industrial environments.

Although this illusion has been reported for many years, cognitive psychologists and ergonomists have tended to neglect it. This paper reviews the current state of BHI-related research and potential contributing factors. We conclude that the relatively short and less comprehensive research history has resulted in a lack of consensus definition of the BHI. Moreover, the prior studies potentially misled theoretical research and practical applications. Further, we discuss possible coping mechanisms that address perception, attention, and flying strategy. We propose that unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based BHI research is a promising path to reduce the current neglect of research on the topic.

The aim of this study is to propose an optimal numeric keypad design for elderly users. A total of 51 participants greater than or equal to 65 years old completed a 6-digit numeric entry task on a smartphone touchscreen. The Java-based experimental program allows participants to operate 45 different keypad designs consisting of three button shapes (circle, vertical rectangle, and square), five button sizes with 2.5-mm increments (7.5 mm, 10 mm, 12.5 mm, 15 mm, and 17.5 mm), and three button spacings (0 mm, 1 mm, and 3 mm). The usability of the keypad design was compared based on task completion time, error rate, and subjective satisfaction, while the data was analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. The results show that circle and square buttons outperform the vertical rectangle button in completion time, accuracy, and satisfaction. Square and circle buttons in 15 mm size led to improved efficiency and decreased error rate. Moreover, task completion time for 3 mm is significantly shorter than 0 mm spacing. Given sufficient space on the touchscreen, the 3 mm spacing can be considered optimal when designing a numeric keypad interface. This study presents a comparison of different numeric keypad designs and the impact on the performance and satisfaction of elderly users. The result can be applied to smartphone numeric keypad design to increase input accuracy and speed. In addition, both circle and square buttons can be adopted in user interfaces for elderly users without the decline of usability. Relevance to industry: The proposed configuration of button shape, size, and spacing can be applied to the numeric keypad user interface (UI) of smartphones targeting elderly users, especially in healthcare applications.

By integrating motion capture, body scanning systems, cutting-edge shape modeling and registration technologies, this study develops a new method to quantitatively analyze the variation of full-body skin surfaces (VoFBSS) in dynamic poses. The VoFBSS method includes three steps: (1) joint movements are grouped under different pose groups covering most dynamic body motions; (2) full-body skin surface is segmented into different regions; and (3) the segmented skin regions under various dynamic motions are compared with the same skin regions in the standard standing pose. The results of a designed experiment including eleven male adults show that shoulder motions have the largest impacts on surface changes. This method tracks full-body skin surface variations under different joint movements, which provides a valuable reference for future research in ergonomics product design or medical-related fields.

This has led to an increased emphasis on studying and quantifying human elements in this domain. A conventional method applied to evaluate the risk associated with offshore platforms under both drilling and operations is quantitative risk analysis (QRA). Human reliability analysis (HRA) approaches have been developed that incorporate human performance and the resulting human errors in QRA for a more holistic overview of the associated risks with offshore facilities. However, due to the complex socio-technical nature of the offshore industry, the effective integration of HRA in QRA has remained a challenge. In this study, we have reviewed various HRA methods applied in offshore domain along with various QRA methods that facilitate HRA integration. The study revealed that the offshore domain mainly utilizes first-generation HRA methods for QRA of offshore emergency scenarios and second-generation methods for normal design and operation. It was also observed that certain QRA methods were more compatible with specific HRA techniques depending on the nature of the HRA technique.

Therefore, the current cross-sectional study investigated 645 registered nurses from four regions of China using a previously validated musculoskeletal survey. Survey includes questions to understand and identify individual characteristics of nurses, biomechanical and psychosocial risk factors associated with MSDs. There was an 84.2% overall 12-month prevalence of MSDs, which were most common in the lower back (73.5%), neck (73.2%) and shoulders (66.2%). A logistic regression including all risk factors was performed for MSDs at each body site. Among individual factors, weekly working hours, gender, BMI, age, and alcohol use significantly affected the odds ratios of MSDs. The most influential biomechanical risk factors identified were cumulative characteristics of the stress, such as time in awkward posture, time of manual material handling, and sustained squat posture. Statistically significant psychosocial risk factors included support from supervisors and/or colleagues, work control and demands, nurse staffing, and medical device supply. The prevalence of MSDs in Chinese nurses in the current study was high compared with previous studies. Exposures from cumulative physical stresses appeared to increase the risk of MSDs and the development of the associated guidelines on these cumulative exposures is merited. Sufficient nurse staffing, sufficient and proper medical equipment should be provided to reduce the risk of MSDs.

Moreover, it is regarded as a powerful design element of cars. This study aims to investigate the aesthetic preferences of consumers for taillight shape design and provide insights on visually appealing shapes for vehicle designers and manufacturers. The experiment used in this study consisted of bottom-up and top-down attentional processes that used an integrated eye-tracking method with self-report. The results showed that a taillight shape with contour features or medium length was more aesthetically preferred by consumers. Additionally, horizontal taillight shapes were more preferred compared to vertical taillight shapes. Taillight shape design insights can help in creating visually appealing rear-end designs by not only enhancing the aesthetic appearance of vehicles but also by helping in creating a unique visual signature for the brand.

For investigating these effects a generic collaborative picking and sorting task was designed, implemented and tested by volunteer participants, in a Virtual Reality simulation environment. Results demonstrated that, showing robot's intent through anticipatory cues significantly increased team efficiency, human safety and collaborative fluency in conjunction with a positive subjective inclination towards the robot. Robot adaptiveness significantly increased human safety without decreasing task efficiency and fluency, compared to a control condition.

The rate of accuracy, response time (for making decisions and carrying out actions), and cognitive processing/efficiency through eye movement indicators (diameter of pupil (an index of cognitive effort) and average fixation time (index of level of engagement)) are used to measure the legibility. It is found that the font type and case have a significant impact on the legibility of the information. The Arial font is more legible than the Times New Roman font, and lowercase letters are more legible than uppercase letters. The PPE has no significant influence on the legibility. The font size has a significant effect on the response time, but not on the rate of accuracy, average fixation time and diameter of the pupil. The response time is greatly reduced with a font size of 20 pt. Therefore, a ventilator interface with information parameters that use a 20 pt Arial font with lowercase letters can offer greater legibility. The experimental results provide guidance for designing the typographic information of ventilator interfaces.
