Coke Strength after Reaction. Signification regarding various furnace operation and various cokes

查看更多>>摘要:CSR conditions are not adapted to all metallurgical uses of coke. Two cokes with different CRI/CSR may have similar coke strength after reaction when they have been gasified at the same weight loss. The study of the apparent reaction regimes contributes to explain the importance of the conditions of various reactivity tests (grain size, temperature) when comparison of coke is required, based on the reactivity. Effect of weight loss, temperature and coke quality (especially porosity) on the mechanism of coke degradation after gasification are presented.

Utilization of Movable Armor on Edgar Thomson No. 1 Blast Furnace

查看更多>>摘要:During the most recent reline of No. 1 blast furnace at the Edgar Thomson (ET) plant of U. S. Steel (USS), the stockline annulus was reduced by 15% and movable throat armor was installed. Data from trials on a full-scale model were successfully used to develop a charging sequence for the furnace. Information from the model was used to confirm burden distribution in the furnace. Model data support the philosophy of maintaining center flow with the coke kicker and controlling the wall and mid-radius gas flow with the armor position of the first and second coke charges, respectively. During the filling of the furnace, material trajectories for coke and pellets were obtained by measuring impact locations on the armor. Also, during this filling study, a ten-foot operating stockline was established. Distribution changes were evaluated by the performance of the furnace and the data from the above burden probe. No operational problems were encountered during the initial usage of the armor. Above burden probe temperature profiles obtained after armor use, confirmed results from the full-scale model and indicated a thinner center working indicated a thinner center working furnace operation. The furnace performance improved with the new material distribution pattern. After the implementation of the armor, the top gas efficiency was improved by 3%, while the coke rate and the total fuel rate were reduced by 3.5% and 6.0% respectively. The standard deviation for the hot-metal silicon was also reduced by 30%. All the improvements can not be attributed solely to the implementation of the movable armor. A hot-blast temperature increase and coke quality improvements enhanced the furnace operation after the reline. After taking into account the coke rate reduction for these enhancements, the coke rate savings from the implementation of the armor is approximately 10 1b/NTHM.
