查看更多>>摘要:The taxonomy of the genus Ochicanthon Vaz-de-Mello of the Indian subcontinent is revised and an identification key to the species is provided. The number of Ochicanthon species from the region is increased to 15, eight of which are new: O. besucheti Cuccodoro sp. nov., O. ceylonicus Cuccodoro sp. nov., O. devagiriensis Sabu & Latha sp. nov., O. ernei Cuccodoro sp. nov., O. gauricola Cuccodoro sp. nov., O. murthyi Vinod & Sabu sp. nov., O. mussardi Cuccodoro sp. nov. and O. vazdemelloi Latha & Sabu sp. nov. Four species from the upper montane cloud forests are wingless, raising the number of wingless species of Ochicanthon to five. At least two groups of Ochicanthon exist in the Indian subcontinent: i) the O. tristis group with dorsum predominantly black-brown, with a distinct pattern of orange-yellow patches on the elytra and ii) the O. laetus group with dorsum entirely brown or black and with or without a faint orange patch. The distributions in the moist forests of the southwestern and northeastern regions of the Indian subcontinent, the possible origin of the genus in the Westem Ghats in the southwest of the subcontinent and the flightlessness of montane species are discussed.
查看更多>>摘要:Loxandrus oophagus sp. nov. is described (type-locality: Uberiandia, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil). Larvae, pupae and adults of the new species of the carabid beetle were collected on foam nests of the anuran Leptodactylus fuscus (Schneider, 1799) inthe surroundings of Uberiandia, 18°55S, 48°17W (Brazil, Minas Gerais), at 750 m altitude. The new species is compared with the similar Loxandrus quinarius Will & Liebherr, 1997, only known from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, differing by the morphology of tarsomeres. Larvae prey on anuran eggs. Description of the immatures and the natural history of the species are provided. The larva differs from the known larvae of Loxandrus species mainly by being eruciform, glabrous and depigmented, its small head and legs, and the lack of stemmata and urogomphi, representing an unusual last instar type among the Carabidae.
查看更多>>摘要:Morphometric analyses were carried out on five biotypes of Lysiphlebus fabarum (Marshall) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Aphidiinae) associated with five host aphid species, Aphis craccivora Koch, Aphis fabae Scopoli, Aphis gossypii Glover, Brachyunguis zygophylli (Nevsky) and Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner). Sixteen morphological characters were measured on female specimens of L. fabarum. Two multivariate discriminant analyses, discriminant function analysis and Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic mean cluster analysis, were employed to discriminate among L. fabarum biotypes on a morphological basis. Both discriminant function analysis and cluster analysis revealed significant morphological differences. Specimens of L.I fabarum reared on Melanaphis sacchari/ Sorghum halepense association showed clear differentiation from other L. fabarum biotypes. A stepwise discriminant fiinction analysis selected Distance between R1-R2 junction and outer margin of wing. Metacarpus length. Width of first tergit. Basal vein length and Femur length that showed the highest contribution to the separation of host-adapted biotypes. A dendrogram of the cluster analysis based on data of squared Euclidean distances classified biotypes in different groups. This study demonstrates that morphometric analysis of morphological characters can efficiently discriminate among host-associated groups based on size variation and clearly separate biotypes of L. fabarum. We concluded that L. fabarum biotypes are not homogeneous morphological entities, and represent different host-associated forms.
查看更多>>摘要:A new genus with three new species of fossil Buprestidae, Sinoparathyrea bimaculata gen. et sp. nov., S. gracilenta sp. nov., and S. robusta sp. nov., from the Middle Jurassic Jiulongshan Formation of Irmer Mongolia, China, are described. This is theearliest fossil record of buprestids in China and it is also the first record of buprestids from the Middle Jurassic Jiulongshan Formation of China.
查看更多>>摘要:The Phlaeothripinae genus Terthrothrips is recorded from China for the first time, with a key to the three species here recorded, including one new species, T. palmatus. This differs from the known species of the genus by the pronotal antero-marginalsetae being well developed and broadly expanded at the apex. New distribution information is provided for T. apterus Kudo and T. parvus Okajima, described originally from Japan.
