A partial revision of the Philarius gerlachei (Nobili, 1905) species complex (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae), with description of four new species

    IVAN MARINARTHUR ANKER
    28页
查看更多>>摘要:The pontoniine shrimp Philarius gerlachei (Nobili, 1905) is revised based on Nobili's type material from the Persian Gulf and specimens recently collected in Madagascar, Australia and French Polynesia. Philarius gerlachei is redescribed and four species are described as new: P. polynesicus n. sp. from Moorea, French Polynesia; P. rufus n. sp. and P. minor n. sp., both from Heron Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia, and P albimaculatus n. sp. from Nosy-Be, Madagascar. These species differ from P. gerlachei and/or from each other by a combination of morphological characters and species-diagnostic colour patterns. All species of Philarius appear to be obligate associates of branching corals of the genus Acropora.

In these samples six eutardigrade species were found: Hypsibius convergens, Isohypsibiusprosostomus, Macrobiotus binieki sp. nov., M hufelandi, M. pallarii and Ramazzottius oberhaeuseri. The new species belongs to the Macrobiotus harmsworthi group and differs from the most similar M. australis, M. coronatus, M. patiens, M. pseudocoronatus, M. radiatus, M. rigidus and M. simulans mainly by: egg processes covered by small bubbles (not smooth or reticulated), egg shell between processes covered by wrinkles not dots or sfripes forming a large radiate crown, a higher number of processes on egg circumference and some morphometric characters of adults. In this paper a key to all species of the harmsworthi group is also given.

Rediscovery and description of the quagga shark, Halaelurus quagga (Alcock, 1899) (Chondrichthyes: Scyliorhinidae) from the southwest coast of India

查看更多>>摘要:The Quagga shark Halaelurus quagga (Alcock, 1899) is one of the poorest known scyliorhinid (Carcharhiniformes) sharks of the world, described from a single specimen collected from the Arabian Sea coast of India (off Malabar). Since its description, the only other published reports of this species are of specimens from Somalia. This paper reports on H. quagga from Indian waters, more than 100 years after its description, and only the third report of specimens of this species globally. A re-descriptionof H. quagga is also provided based on the recent Indian specimens.

Plumage variability and taxonomy of the Capped Seedeater Sporophila bouvreuil (Aves: Passeriformes: Emberizidae)

查看更多>>摘要:The species Sporophila bouvreuil comprises four subspecies: S. b. bouvreuil, S. b. pileata, S. b. saturata and S. b. crypta. The males of each subspecies differ in plumage whereas the females and juveniles are very similar and difficult to identify tosubspecies. Here we use extemal morphological characters, mostly plumage, to examine the validity of the subspecies. A total of209 specimens was examined S.b. bouvreuil, 29 S. b. crypta, 43 S. b. pileata and 6 S. b. saturata). Although morphological measurements did not separate any taxa, plumage patterns support recognition of two taxonomic units, one of birds having reddish brown male plumage and the other of birds with grayish to white male plumage. Discrete diagnostic characters and sympatry in SEBrazil allow separation of Sporophila pileata (Sclater 1864) from S. bouvreuil (MuUer 1776). On the other hand, S. b. saturata Hellmayr 1904 and S. b. crypta Sick 1968 should be considered synonyms of S. bouvreuil.

查看更多>>摘要:The male of Paradossenus pulcher Sierwald, 1993 and a new species, P. macuxi, from Roraima, Northern Brazil are described and illustrated for the first time. The monotypic genus Magnichela Silva & Lise, 2006 is a junior synonym of Paradossenus F.O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1903. Paradossenus amazonensis Carico & Silva, 2010 is a junior synonym of Magnichela santaremensis Silva & Lise, 2006 (type species). New data on the Brazilian distributions of Paradossenus acanthocymbium Carico & Silva, 2010, P. tocantins Carico & Silva, 2010 and P pozo Carico & Silva, 2010 are presented.
