Here we will describe six new species from this region {Phallusia fragilis, Ascidia boca-torensis, A.collini, A. corallicola, A. monnioti and A. panamensis), register and complement the description of an additional seven species in the family Ascidiidae (A. archaia, A. curvata, A. interrupta, A. cf. munda,A. sydneiensis, A. tenue and Phallusia nigra). We also provide a tabular identification key that also includes P. caguayensis and A. xamaycana. Most of the species are very abundant on mangrove roots.

The Brazilian material is illustrated and an updated list of the Brazilian processid shrimps and a key for their identification are provided.

The forms deubeli and kochi proved to be valid subspecies, while the other two forms are synonymised with the nominotypical subspecies, M. p. projecting. The differences in the male gonopod of M. p. dioritanum from the nominotypical subspecies projectum are only due to its positioning under the microscope, while M. p. alticolum showed also only minor differences from projectum, so it cannot be considered as separate subspecies. Female genitalia also seem to support the existence of the three subspecies. A short key for the subspecies is included.

This new species has a distinctive tail terminus, possessing a short trunk with two finely rounded and smooth processes of unequal length in the female and a smallH(entral papilla-like mucronate structure or a short trunk with two fine processes in the male, slightly offset lip region with 6 annules, four incisures in the lateral field, short postuterine sac (extending ca. 13-20% of vulva-anus distance), medium-sized spicules (14.1-18.6 urn), three pairs of caudal papillae. It is closest to A. dalianensis, but these two species can be distinguished from each other by spicule size and shape, male tail tip shape, postuterine sac length, c ratio and ITS sequence. Molecular analysis reveals that this species has unique ITS, 18S and mt-DNA sequences.

The site is located on the Mid-Atlantic ridge, in the Kane fracture zone at 2100m depth. The substratum consists of masses of fallen basalt blocks lying on black pebbles. A single specimen was attached to an easily breakable black stone with manganese particles. This ascidian represents the second specimen of the genus Myopegma Monniot & Monniot, 2003 previously known from the Pacific Ocean off New Caledonia.
