查看更多>>摘要:Six years ago, an ongoing sampling programme to seek symbiont copepods was initiated in the Strait of Gibraltar. Most of the copepod species reported in this area (48%) belonged to the families Notodelphyidae and Botryllophilidae and nearly 30% of them were new to science. This paper describes a new species of Asterocheres (Asterocheridae, Siphonostomatoida) and redescribes two poorly known species of this genus. Asterocheres tarifensis n. sp. was found living in association with Astroides calycularis, a coral that hosts a variety of symbiotic copepods. This new species differs from its congeners by the possession of the following combined characters: body cyclopiform, 21-segmented antennule in female, 2-segmented mandibular palp, siphon reaching the insertion of maxilliped, maxilla without aesthetasc, maxilliped 5-segmented, armature of the antennary exopod consisting of two setae, inner lobe and outer lobe of maxillule each armed with four setae, genital area armed with two setae, fifth leg exopod with three setae, and caudal rami about as long as wide. Furthermore, two poorly known Asterocheres species are redescribed revealing some discrepancies with their previous descriptions. Asterocheres minutus is characterized by having a 21-segmented antennule, a very short oral siphon, a 1-segmented mandibular palp, and the two lobes of the maxillule with a similar length. The cladistic model of budding hypothesis is proposed for the origin of the two sibling Asterocheres species: A. minutus and A. echinicola. Asterocheres siphonatus is distinguished by a combination of characters that include a 21-segmented antennule, an oral siphon extending to the intercoxal plate of leg 4 and the 1-segmented mandibular palp. The controversy concerning the name of this species is also studied.
查看更多>>摘要:The Apteropanorpidae is a family of wingless scorpionflies endemic to Tasmania, comprising four described species in the genus Apteropanorpa Carpenter. Intensive field surveys for adult Apteropanorpa conducted from April to May 2002 revealed the presence of ectoparasitic mites, parasitising many individuals of Apteropanorpa tasmanica Carpenter at four localities. Laboratory investigations revealed the presence of one species from each of the Erythraeidae and Microtrombidiidae parasitising adults: Leptus agrotis Southcott and Willungella rufusanus sp. nov., respectively. The larvae of W. rufusanus are described. Laboratory investigations of attachment sites and parasite loads of male and female scorpionflies are described and discussed. Results show neither sex was parasitised more than the other, and that up to four mites parasitised individual scorpionflies, although most adults supported one or two mites. Like many other Leptus species, all L. agrotis larvae attached to sclerites, whereas all W. rufusanus larvae attached to membranous areas. Larval W. rufusanus were predominantly attached to the scorpionfly abdomen; however, larval L. agrotis were more evenly distributed on the scorpionfly body. These data are the first records of parasitism in the Apteropanorpidae, and the first report of parasitism of Mecoptera in Australia. Parasitism of A. tasmanica by W. rufusanus is the first record of a mecopteran as a host for larval microtrombidiine mites. Parasite records for the Mecoptera are summarised.
查看更多>>摘要:The carnivorous sponge Asbestopluma hypogea, was known only from shallow submarine caves (-15 to -26 m) in the Western Mediterranean Sea and the Adriatic. Herein A. hypogea is reported from outside of caves, on seamounts in the Alboran Sea (-167 m), off the Balearics (-100 m) and north off Sicily (-660 m), and along steep bathyal escarpments in the Strait of Sicily (similar to 700 m). These deeper ROV-based findings of A. hypogea are conform to the typical deep-sea occurrence of the Cladorhizidae.
查看更多>>摘要:Within the tribe Pipistrellini, the genus Glischropus is very close to the genus Pipistrellus both in its external morphology and chromosomal features but can be unequivocally distinguished from the latter by the presence of thumb pads and the position of the second incisor. One of the two known species, G. tylopus was thought to have a wide distribution range from Myanmar to the Philippines, while the other, G. javanus is only known from Java. Recently collected Cambodian specimens of Glischropus are distinguished from their congeners by longer forearm and cranial features (the shape of the skull and the upper incisors and certain craniodental measurements) and are consequentially, described here as a new species. Based on thorough examination of the available museum material, it can be concluded that all specimens of G. tylopus previously collected in the Indochinese zoogeographic subregion are in fact representatives of this new species, while G. tylopus in a strict sense is restricted in the mainland to south of the Isthmus of Kra.
查看更多>>摘要:A new deep-water species of the snapping shrimp genus Alpheus Fabricius, 1798 is described from two offshore localities in the northern Gulf of Mexico, south of Louisiana. Alpheus lentiginosus n. sp. belongs to the A. macrocheles (Hailstone, 1835) species group and is most closely related to the western Atlantic A. pouang Christoffersen, 1979 and A. amblyonyx Chace 1972, the eastern Atlantic A. platydactylus Coutiere, 1897 and A. macrocheles (Hailstone, 1835), and perhaps also to the eastern Pacific A. exilis Kim & Abele, 1988. The new species is associated with deep-water soft sediments adjacent to clusters of Lophelia pertusa (L.) (Scleractinia) or mud-covered rocks and cobble, at a depth range of 336-438 m, thus representing the deepest-known record of the Alpheidae in the Gulf of Mexico and the entire western Atlantic.
查看更多>>摘要:The number of citations is not an adequate measure of taxonomic quality, which is a view that is shared with other scientific disciplines (Seglenl997; Valdecasas et al. 2000; Walter et al. 2003). A recent editorial in Nature claims that"... citationsare an unreliable measure of importance" (Anon. 2010: 850) and uses two chemistry papers as an example. The first paper was cited 182 times in the same period that the other paper was cited only 13 times. However, the latter paper is recognized as 'outstanding' by the experts from the American Chemical Society, which would not be revealed by the arbitrary counting of citations. Similar examples have evoked critical editorial comments in high-impact journals.

查看更多>>摘要:Histiophryne maggiewalker, a new species of frogfish of the teleost order Lophiiformes, family Antennariidae, is described from six specimens collected in shallow waters off Queensland, Australia. The new taxon differs from its congeners in having a relatively long illicium and esca, the latter expanded distally, more or less rectangular; and genetic divergence in the nuclear recombination activation gene-2 (RAG2) and cytochrome oxidase-I (COI) genes. Members of the new species are black with a reticulate patterning discernible only with aid of a dissecting scope; or white with light brown spots. The new species is described and compared with its congeners.
