查看更多>>摘要:The Neotropical bat genus Lophostoma (Phyllostomidae: Phyllostominae) currently includes seven species. Two taxa, Lophostoma aequatorialis and Lophostoma silvicolum occidentalis, occur west of the Andes in Ecuador and Peru. In the description of L. aequatorialis, these two taxa were compared solely on the basis of morphology because DNA sequence data could not be obtained from the type series of L. s. occidentalis. Here, comparisons are based on molecular data and extensive morphological comparisons.The congruence between the morphological and molecular variation in our analyses support the recognition of L. occidentalis as a valid species and the consideration of L. aequatorialis as a junior synonym of L. occidentalis. Phylogenetic analysis of Lophostoma based on cytochrome-b sequences indicates that L. occidentalis is closely related to L. schulzi. L. occidentalis can be recognized by its white to pale post-auricular patches; dorsal side of the forearm naked; well-developed lateral projection ofmastoid process; wide basioccipital; shallow basisphenoid pits weakly separated by a septum; P3 and P4 distal accessory cusp present; M1 ectocingulum strongly developed; M1 mesostyle absent; M1 mesostylar crest present; M1 anterior ectoflexus deep and posterior ectoflexus shallow; M1 lingual cingulum present; M2 mesostyle absent; and M2 mesostylar crest present.

查看更多>>摘要:Two undescribed species of Scopimera are herein described. Scopimera sheni sp. nov. from Qingdao, represents the fourth species of the genus to be recognized from North China. Scopimera philippinensis sp. nov. is the first record of the genus from the Philippines. Morphologically both new species belong to the "normal form" Scopimera (sensu Kemp 1919). Amongst other characters, each can be distinguished by its diagnostic male first gonopod. Mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene sequences showed two distinct clades. An East Asia group (Chinese coasts, Japan, Korea and Taiwan) consisting of S. globosa De Haan, 1835, S. ryukyuensis Wong, Chan et Shih, 2010, S. sheni sp. nov., S. longidactyla Shen, 1932 and S. curtelsona (= S. cutelsoma) Shen, 1936; and a Southeast Asia group consisting of the closely related S. philippinensis sp. nov. and S. intermedia Balss, 1934. A dichotomous key is provided for all "normal forms" of Scopimera species.
查看更多>>摘要:As a part of the All-Taxa Biodiversity Inventory of Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Tennessee, North Carolina, U.S.A.) a collection of 192 specimens of Pauropoda has been studied. Eighteen species belonging to six genera in three families have been identified. Four of the species in Pauropodidae are new to science and described: Decapauropus arcuatilis n.sp., Stylopauropus plicatus n. sp., Donzelotauropus dividuus n. sp. and Donzelotauropus tenuitarsus n. sp. With the four new species the number of known species in GSMNP now stands at 49. A key is presented to the genera collected up to now in GSMNP.

查看更多>>摘要:Morphological and molecular analyses have proven to be complementary tools of taxonomic information for the redescription of the ctenostome bryozoans Amathia brasiliensis Busk, 1886 and Amathia distans Busk, 1886. The two species, originally described from material collected by the 'Challenger' expedition but synonymized by later authors, now have their status fixed by means of the selection of lectotypes, morphological observations and analyses of DNA sequences described here. The morphological characters allowing the identification of living and/or preserved specimens are (1) A. brasiliensis: whitish-pale pigment spots in the frontal surface of stolons and zooids, and a wide stolon with biserial zooid clusters growing in clockwise and anti-clockwise spirals along it, the spirality direction being maintained from maternal to daughter stolons; and (2) A. distans: bright yellow pigment spots in stolonal and zooidal surfaces including lophophores, and a slender stolon, thickly cuticularized, with biserial zooid clusters growing in clockwise and anti-clockwise spirals along it and the spirality direction not maintained from maternal to daughter stolons. Pairwise comparisons of DNA sequences of the mitochondrial genes cytochrome c oxidase subunit I and large ribosomal RNA subunit revealed deep genetic divergence between A. brasiliensis and A. distans. Finally, analyses of those sequences within a Bayesian phylogenetic context recovered their genealogical species status.

查看更多>>摘要:Tenuipalpus omani n. sp. (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) is described from the Sultanate of Oman, based on adults of both sexes collected on date palm, Phoenix dactylifera L. (Arecaceae). This new species is most similar to T. eriophyoides Baker, T. pareriophyoides Meyer & Gerson and T. yarensis Hasan, Bashir & Wakil, also collected from date palm.
