The original description does not allow definite placement in any of the subfamilies in the Coccidae. Although it had been suggested that it belonged to the Cardiococcinae, no other members of this subfamily were geographically close. The adult female and ls,-instar nymph of the type species, Chlamydolecanium conchioides Goux are here re-described. A parsimony analysis wasundertaken based on 56 morphological characters of the adult females in 29 taxa (24 genera considered to belong to the Cardiococcinae, plus Parafairmaria bipartita (Signoret), an incertae sedis monospecific genus possibly close to Cardiococcinae, plus the recently described Kenima galilit Ben-Dov plus two other soft scale genera as outgroups (Coccus hesperidum L. and Paralecanium frenchii (Maskell)). This analysis confirmed the placement of the genus Chlamydolecanium within the Cardiococcinae clade, although its sister-group relationships remain unresolved. Its geographic distribution and taxonomic relationships are discussed.

Illustrations are provided for all important morphological characters and distinguishing characters are discussed. Distribution maps for each species are provided and remarks on the ecology are included. Finally, an additional genus is recorded for Central America for the first time, from two nymphs collected from the Central Valley in Costa Rica, possibly belonging to the genus Perlesta.

Three new Praociini (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) from Peninsula Valdes (Argentina), with zoogeographical and ecological remarks

查看更多>>摘要:Three new taxa from Peninsula Valdes (Argentina) are described for the tribe Praociini (Pimeliinae): Calymmophoruspen-insularis sp. nov. and two subspecies of Praocis (Hemipraocis) sellata Berg 1889: P. (H.) sellata peninsular is ssp. nov. and P. (H.)sellata granulipennis ssp. nov. The first two taxa are endemic to the peninsula and the third one is distributed in and outside the peninsula. Distribution maps, habitat records and habitus photographs for these three new taxa are included, with comparisons to other known species of the genera. An identification key to the five subspecies of Praocis (Hemipraocis) sellata is provided. A discussion is presented on endemicity and sympatry of two species of Calymmophorus Solier 1840, and non-sympatry of two subspecies of Praocis (Hemipraocis) sellata. The following synonymy is reported and illustrated: Praocis sellata bruchi Kulzer 1958 = Praocis sellata topali Kaszab 1964 syn. nov.

The following new synonymies are proposed: C. evanidus Needham & Murphy, 1924 (=C. juradinus Navas, 1930) and C.jorgenseni Esben-Petersen, 1912 (=C. scutellaris Needham & Murphy, 1924). Redescriptions, drawings and photographs are provided for both species. C. vulturorum sp. nov. from Argentina and Uruguay is described and illustrated for all life stages. It is characterized, in the adult stage, by: very large size (male fore wings 15.9-20.5 mm, female fore wings 21.0-28.0 mm), posterior margin of male abdominal sternum IXconvex and rounded, pedestals subrectangular with a short projection on outer-posterior margin; penes widely separated distally, each arm formed by two lobes; and in mature nymphs by: mandibular tusks robust with a large submedian tubercle and six subapical rounded and small tubercles, maxilla with a short flat and triangular membranous gill on cardo.
