The family placement of Cissococcus has been uncertain, but characters of the first-instar nymph and adult male clearly show that Cissococcus is a soft scale insect (Coccidae) and is therefore the only member of the Coccidae known to induce a complex covering gall. All stages of the type species, C.fulleri Cockerell, are described and illustrated, plus the adult and third-instar female and first-instar nymph of a new, closely-related species, C. braini Hodgson & Millar sp. n. Both species are known only from wild vines in the southeast and C.fulleri also in the northeast of South Africa, but each induces a unique gall and each appears to be restricted to a different species of Rhoicissus (Vitaceae). The galls of each species are described and figured, and gall induction in the Coccidae is briefly discussed.

This genus is similar to Bidessodes Regimbart and Fon-tidessusMiller and Spangler, but differs from the first in having overall dark coloration, lack of dorsal color patterns or iridescence, a broad lateral bead, and broad and robust habitus. From Fontidessus the genus differs in being much more robust and lackingnatatory setae. Incomptodessus n. gen. is described to include a single new species I. camachoi n. sp. from localities in the upper Orinoco River basin in Amazonas and Bolivar States. This genus differs from similar bidessine genera, Sharphydrus Omer-Cooper, Tyndallhydrus Sharp, Liodessus Guignot and Neobidessus Young, in having impunc-tate metacoxae and metaventrite and lacking basal striae on the elytra.

Here we describe three new species of Cloeodes from this country: C. dialutoi, C. guenoa and C. vaimaca, all of them based on nymphs. The species C. opacus is reported for the first time in Uruguay. A discussion of each taxon is included as well as drawings of the new species. A revised and updated key for male imagos and nymphs of South American species of Cloeodes is presented.
查看更多>>摘要:Characters of two species, described more than seventy years ago in the genus Arrhopalites Borner, A. coccineus Salmon, 1941 and A. adelaidica Womersley, 1933, are not consistent with the current diagnosis of the genus. Instead, the holotype of A. coccineus and two cotypes of A. adelaidica, but not the lectorype, are consistent with characters of Stenacidia violacea (Reuter, 1881) following the description of the genus and species published by Bretfeld (1999). Stenacidia violacea is the type speciesof its monotypic genus. As the characters of the genus Stenacidia, following Bretfeld (1999), are very different to those of Arrhopalites, but are consistent with the characters of A. coccineus and two cotypes of A. adelaidica, A. coccineus is synonymised with & violacea here and identification of the cotypes of A. adelaidica corrected.
