    Redescription of Orobdella ijimai (Hirudinida: Arhynchobdellida: Gastrostomobdellidae), and two new species of Orobdella from the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan

    查看更多>>摘要:Sexannulate Orobdella leech, Orobdella ijimai, is redescribed based on newly collected specimens from the type locality, Nikko, Tochigi Pref., Japan, since this species was originally described based on limited number of characters. In addition, two new sexannulate species, Orobdella dolichopharynx sp. nov. from Amamioshima Island in the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan, and Orobdella shimadae sp. nov. from Okinawajima Island also in the Ryukyu Archipelago, are described. They resemble O. ijimai in the annulation of mid-body somites, but they differ from the latter in the annulation of somite VIII, position of gonopores, the lack of gastropore, the length of pharynx, the shape of gastroporal duct, and the morphology of male genital organ. Two new Orobdella species differ from each other in the annulation of somite VII, the position of gonopores, and the shape of gastroporal duct. In accordance with the two new species, the diagnosis of Orobdella is slightly emended.

    查看更多>>摘要:Taxonomic keys, distributional data and hosts are provided for the 26 Amblyomma species known from Mexico. Members of this genus have been collected in 30 of Mexico's 32 states and are associated with 43 nominal vertebrate taxa, of which 40 have beenidentified to species and four {Python sp., Myrmecophaga tridactyla, Tamandua tetradactyla, Tupinambis teguixin) are non-native. Mammals are the principal class of vertebrates parasitized by Mexican Amblyomma species, followed by reptiles, birds and amphibians. Our knowledge of Mexican Amblyomma is still far from complete because many potential hosts have not yet been examined and vast areas of the country remain unexplored.

    A new species of Secutor (Teleostei: Leiognathidae) from the Western Indian Ocean

    查看更多>>摘要:A new species of ponyfish, Secutor mazavasaoka, is described from coastal waters of the Western Indian Ocean. Together, the new species, S. indicius, and S. insidiator are readily distinguished from congeners by more or less oval-shaped elongate bodies (vs. markedly deep and disk-shaped). The new species is distinguished from S. hanedai by the presence of scales on the chest (vs. chest asquamate), and from S. indicius and S. insidiator by a deeper, hatchet-shaped body (vs. uniformly oval) and pigmentation pattern on the dorsal flank comprising eight to eleven well-defined columns of irregular small spots and blotches (vs. 14 to 17 thin columns of spots or vertical lines in S. indicius, or larger irregular blotches arrayed in poorly defined columns in S. insidiator). Additionally, the new species is distinguished from S. insidiator by a strongly upturned mouth and compressed pug-like snout, a pronounced concavity dorsal to the orbit, a dorsally-projecting nuchal spine, and dorsal-fin insertion wellposterior to vertical through pectoral-fin base (vs. at about level of pectoral-fin base in S. insidiator).

    Description of Barbus teugelsi sp. nov. (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae) from the Little Scarries basin in Guinea, Africa

    查看更多>>摘要:Barbus teugelsi, a new African cyprinid, is described from the Mongo River at Marela (Guinea). It is morphologically similar to the syntopically occurring 'B.' bigornei Leveque et al. 1988, with which it has been confounded in the past. However, the scale meristics of the new species differ from those of lB.' bigornei, but are similar in all but one to those of 'B.' ablabes (Bleeker 1863) and 'B.'parablabes Daget 1957. Barbus teugelsi sp. nov. is clearly distinguished from both these species by the following unique combination of characters: a lower total number of gill rakers on the first gill arch (3-6); the presence of long barbels, with the anterior barbels reaching the vertical passing through the middle of the eye and the posterior barbels extending beyond the vertical passing through the posterior edge of the eye and reaching the pre-operculum. In addition, the cephalic sensory canals are highly reduced or even absent. Furthermore, small differences between the new species and the other three species were found for several measurements. A short discussion on the taxonomic value of some diagnostic characters in small barbs is included.

    查看更多>>摘要:The caridean shrimp family Gnathophyllidae currently comprises five genera: Gnathophyllum Latreille, 1819; Gnaihophylloides Schmitt, 1933; Pycnocaris Bruce, 1972; Levicaris Bruce, 1973a and Gnathophylleptum d'Udekem d'Acoz, 2001, the last three generabeing monotypic (De Grave et al., 2009). The original description of Pycnocaris chagoae Bruce, 1972 was based on a pair of specimens collected in the Chagos Archipelago, central Indian Ocean (Bruce, 1972). Further information on the morphology and colour pattern of P. chagoae as well as its association with the holothurian hosts Holothuria cinerascenes Brandt and Labidodemas rugosum Ludwig was provided by Bruce (1973, 1983). Since the last record by Bruce (1983), no further specimens of P. chagoae have been reported.
