查看更多>>摘要:Symphysanodon disii was described in 2008 from a single specimen collected in October 1999 from the Gulf of Aqaba. More recently, March 2008, four additional specimens of this species were collected in the Gulf. The following characters in combinationdistinguish S. disii from the other species in the genus: parapophyses on the first caudal vertebra, tubed scales in the lateral line 48 to 50, total number of first-arch gillrakers 34 to 37, sum of total number of gillrakers plus lateral-line scales (in individual specimens) 82 to 87, pectoral-fin rays 16 or 17, fleshy orbit diameter 7.2 to 8.3 % SL, and second anal-spine length 8.3 to 9.7 % SL. We redescribe S.disii, comment on S. pitondelafournaisei from the southwestern Indian Ocean off Reunion Island, and discuss sexual dimorphism in the genus.

查看更多>>摘要:During 2007,2008, and 2010,23 specimens of an undescribed vermiform sea anemone were collected on Punta Pardelas and Fracaso Beach (Peninsula Valdes, Argentina). The specimens have longitudinal rows of cinclides distally, all mesenteries perfect, tentacles hexamerously arranged without acrospheres, column not divisible into regions, no marginal sphincter and no conchula. We describe these specimens as a new species within the genus Harenactis (family Haloclav-idae). Harenactis argentina sp. nov. is the second species of Harenactis; it represents the first record of this genus in the southern hemisphere and the first record of a soft bottom-dwelling sea anemone in the Argentine continental zone. Furthermore, we discuss the familial placement and relationships of the genus Harenactis and other athenarian sea anemones.

查看更多>>摘要:A new small cynodont, Candelariodon barberenai gen. et sp. nov., from the Middle Triassic of Brazil (Santa Maria Formation) is reported. The new taxon is represented by a partial mandible having some complete teeth. The morphology of the dentary and splenial is similar to other carnivorous cynodonts, except for the absence of the angular process of the dentary. The anterior-most lower teeth are slightly expanded buccolingually with a tall and posteriorly curved main cusp and one or two accessory cusps. The posterior-most preserved lower postcanine, however, has lingual and buccal rows of cusps, each formed by four anteroposteriorly aligned cusps, separated by a shallow basin. This tooth resembles the posterior-most lower teeth oiAleodon Crompton 1955 from the Middle Triassic of Tanzania, but the anterior-most teeth of Candelariodon and Aleodon are essentially different. In this context, the phylogenetic relationships of the new taxon remain unclear until the discovery of more informative material.

Additionally, Torotrogla mima Kethley, 1970 is redescribed based on the material ex Mimus triurus (Vieillot) from Argentina and M. patagonicus (Lafresnaye and Orbigny) from South Africa.
查看更多>>摘要:Australia has a highly localised but diverse radiation of microhylid frogs. 18 species are described from north-east Queensland (14 Cophixalus and 4 Austrochaperina), most with highly localised montane distributions. While most species are small (10-25 mm) rainforest species, two differ dramatically in ecology and morphology. Cophixalus saxatilis and C. zwe-ifeli inhabit isolated areas of jumbled boulder-pile habitat and are considerably larger than all other species (30-45 mm). Here we describe twonew species of large, boulder dwelling Cophixalus from the Pascoe River region of Cape York Peninsula. Cophixalus kulakula sp. nov. occurs in piled boulder habitat amongst rainforest in the Tozer Range area, while Cophixalus pakayakulangun sp. nov. occurs in similar habitat in the Kennedy Hills region north of the Pascoe River. These are the most northerly sites for Cophixalus in Australia and both occur in rainforest areas not occupied by other species of Cophixalus. Both species are large (snout-ventlength > 40 mm) and of similar morphology to the other two boulder-dwelling species. Cophixalus kulakula sp. nov. and C. pakayakulangun sp. nov. differ from each other and from all other described Cophixalus genetically and in aspects of colour pattern and morphology. The call of C. kulakula sp. nov. is also unique, but the call of C. pakayakulangun sp. nov. remains unknown. The two new species are each others closest relatives (albeit with approximately 8% genetic divergence for 12S and 16S mtDNA) andare allied to C. ornatus. The diet of both species consists primarily of ants. Both species have highly localised distributions but are abundant within these and are probably secure.
查看更多>>摘要:A new species of Leptostraca, Nebalia villalobosi, is described from the Veracruz Coral Reef System, SW Gulf of Mexico. The new species was found associated with the sponge Ircinia fistularis (Demospongiae) from the Blanquilla reef at a depth of 12 m.It differs from the closely related species N. longicornis and N. lagartensis in the form of the eyes and rostrum, the number of articles in the antennular and antennal flagella, the inner border of article 3 on the mandible palp, the length of the exopod of maxilla 2, the rounded denticles on pleonite 6, the enlarged tip on pleopod 5, and the caudal furcae being slightly longer than the telson and pleonite 7 combined. This is the first record of a leptostracan associated with the sponge Ircinia fistularis.
查看更多>>摘要:For most of the last 150 years, Tricheilostoma Jan, 1860 has resided in the synonymy of other snake genera such as Glauconia Gray, 1845 and Leptotyphlops Fitzinger, 1843 (Boulenger, 1893; McDiarmid et al, 1999). Thus there has been less practical concern over the identity of the type species. This changed recently with the proposal of a new classification of the family Leptotyphlopidae and resurrection of the Genus Tricheilostoma (Adalsteinsson et al, 2009). Pinto et al. (2010) alluded to a potentialtaxonomic problem with the type species of that genus, but determined that no change was necessary. However, the problem remains and affects 15 species of South American and African snakes. The purpose of this note is to resolve the issue and make the necessary taxonomic changes.
