查看更多>>摘要:We revised the taxonomic status of the putative Acomys spinosissimus complex based on the comparative study of specimen collections from Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, DR Congo and South Africa, by means of analysis of external morphology, craniometry, enzymes, mitochondrial DNA sequences and karyology. Our results confirm that A. spinosissimus represents a complex of species with seemingly non-overlapping distribution ranges. The distribution range of A. spinosissimus appears to be restricted between the Zambes^ and Limpopo Rivers, while the reinstated A, selousi (that includes A. transvaalensis) occurs further to the South (i.e. northern limit seemingly just north of the Limpopo River). The investigated populations north of the Zambezi River are morphologically and genetically distinct from A. spinosissimus and A. selousi. Based on this evidence, we described Acomys muzei sp. nov. and Acomys ngurui sp. nov., each one occurring separately along one side of the Eastern Arc Mountains. Finally, we lacked sufficient information to describe a third new species from the area north of the Zambesi River.

查看更多>>摘要:Northeast Indian amphibian systematics and taxonomy is receiving increasing interest from herpetologists in recent years as remote, previously unexplored areas become more accessible for surveying. Even locations nearby cosmopolitan cities have the potential to produce taxonomic novelties. Herein we describe a pew species of Megophrys from the foot-hills of the East Khasi Hills, northern Meghalaya, and adjacent forest in Garbhanga Reserve Forest, and Mayeng Hill Reserve Forest nearby the city of Guwahati, southern Assam. Megophrys megacephala sp. nov. is here compared with all Asian mainland congeners. This species altitudinal distribution is the lowest of all known Megophrys described from India and surrounding countries. A brief discussion is provided regarding some of the current difficulties faced by taxonomists working on the genus and several major problems in recent descriptions of congeners from Northeast India.

查看更多>>摘要:A new freshwater ostracod genus, Bicornucandona gen. nov. and its type species {Bicornucandonafineganensis sp. nov.) are described from Finegan Springs, Texas, U.S A. The new genus differs from the related genera in the presence of two horn-like structures on the dorsal margin of the left valve in both sexes. This is also the diagnostic character of the type species. Differences in the structure of the hemipenes and prehensile palps of the male, and the shapes of some other soft body parts also separate this genus from the related species. Taxonomic status of the new genus and species are compared and discussed with both living and fossil relatives.
查看更多>>摘要:A new species of the alpheid genus Richalpheus Anker & Jeng, 2006 is described from the Egyptian Red Sea and Moorea, French Polynesia. Richalpheus alpheoides sp. nov. differs from the two previously described species of this genus, R. palmeri Anker &Jeng, 2006 and R. dahabensis Dworschak & Anker, 2007, by the presence of a distinct proximal tooth on the dactylus fitting into a shallow fossa on the pollex of the major chela, reminiscent of the snapping mechanism in Alpheus Fabricius, 1798. Recently collected material of R. palmeri from'Moorea is reported, whilst a specimen previously reported as R. palmeri is reassigned to R. alpheoides sp. nov. A key to the three known species of Richalpheus is provided.
