The species of this group occur both in the Andean high altitude and at sealevel, but present higher biodiversity at lower altitudes. Most of the immature remain unknown; however, it is known that some larvae feed on several plant families. There are no prior studies on the phylogenetic relationship between the species of thegenus. The goal of this study was to establish the relationships between Arsenura species using cladistic analysis, based on adult morphological characters. Arsenura was recovered as a monophyletic group, with the following relationships between species:((A. meander, A. pandord)((A. polyodonta(A. orbignyana, A. xanthopus))(A. rebe!i((A. mossi(vl beebei, A. ciocolatina))(A. archianassa(A. armida(A. albopicta, A. delormei)))))((A. aspasia, A. biundulata)((A. sylla,A.thomsoni)(A. cymonia(A. ponderosa(A. batesii, A. drucei))))))).

This work provides diagnostic characters for these species and, in particular, for the structure of male genitalia. The affinities with other known species namely their putative closest relatives, as well as ecological and biogeographical comments are also included. A key for the identification of the males of the Geocharis species found north of the Tejo River in Portugal is also provided. New chorologist data on other endogean carabids from Portugal are also included.

C. tapiaguassu is readily differentiated by the absence of setae on the dorsal surface of the head close to the posterior margin, asthe other species of the gens show one, two or tree pairs of setae. Taxa of Coarazuphium exhibit advanced troglo-biomorphic characters in comparison to other Brazilian cave beetles. Increased extra-optic sensory structures, presence of particular sensilla, and sensory and gustatory receptors are characters not detected under routine microscopy and thus require ultrastructural methods for their study. Similar analyses are needed in other epigean Zuphiini species for a better interpretation of their functional meaning.

The new combination Strotihypera flavipuncta (Leech, 1889) comb. n. is introducedfor Hyperstrotia flavipuncta (Leech, 1889) A review of the Old World genera Strotihypera, Elaphria and Galgula of the tribe Elaphriini is presented.
