The new species is very similar to A. magnaphallus, A. pachypus, A. pseudopachypus, and A. tropidolepis, which inhabit the same mountain range. It differs from these species in the coloration of the male dewlap, which is red with a yellow anterior margin (versus male dewlap solid purplishred in A. magnaphallus and A. tropidolepis, red with a central yellow blotch in A. pachypus, and solid yellow in A. pseudopachypus), and in pholidotic characters.

Gracixalus quangi sp. nov. is morphologically and genetically most similar to G. gracilipes and G. supercornutus, but is distinguished from these species and all other rhacophorids in Vietnam and adjoining countries by a combination of their small size (males <25 mm); greenish, translucent skin; opaque yellow anterior surface of thighs, groin, and behind the insertion of the arm; black spots on the flanks and ventral surface of the thighs; triangularly pointed snout; and the presence of a tibiotarsal projection. Gracixalus quangi sp. nov. has a non-stereotypical, hyperextended vocal repertoire, with calls highly variable in structure, duration, amplitude and frequency (dominant frequency 4.1-4.7 kHz). Like G. gracilipes and G. supercornutus, G. quangi sp. nov. deposits egg clutches in clumps on leaves overhanging shallow forest pools or puddles. The new species is known from montane evergreen forest in Pu Hoat ProposedNature Reserve in western Nghe An Province, between -600-1,300 m elevation. Preliminary molecular (mtDNA) data recovered two strongly supported clades within frogs currently considered to belong to genus Gracixalus, with the new species nested within a monophyletic clade consisting of G. gracilipes, G. supercornutus, and G. quyeti.

These congeners share grossly unequal chelipeds, the right being narrowly spatulate and up to four times longer than the left. The males have short sexual tubes consisting of slight extrusions of the vas deferens from the gonopores, though these short tubes are masked by long, forwardly directed setae. The femaleslack first pleopods and have unpaired left second to fifth pleopods. The new species is fully described, illustrated, and compared to P. longimanus, herein placed in the new genus. The diagnosis of the latter species is emended and its distribution expanded to include the Caribbean coast of Panama in Central America.

It differs from all other species of Indo-Chinese Cyrtodactylus by the following combination of characters: SVL 96.0 mm; absence of precloacal and femoral pores; 19 subdigital lamellae on first toe, 24 on fourth toe; large, dark spots on top of head; wide, prominent nuchal band; and five or six dark, irregular, broad bands between limb insertions.

Both species present the heavy dorsal tegular apophysis on the male palps and the multilobed internal duct system in the vulvae, with very long fertilization ducts that are characteristic of the genus.
