The results show a great pollen morphological variation, which provides helpful data for species delimitation in Polygala. The pollen grains are monad, radially symmetrical, isopolar, polyzonocolporate, medium to large, oblate-spheroidal to prolate-spheroidal in shape. We observed four types of surface sculpture (psilate, psilate to granulate, rugulate-granulate and rugulate) and four types of apocolpial area (psilate with small lumina, reticulate with large lumina, micro-perforate and coarsely regulate and gemmate or granulate with lumina). Moreover, the importance of seed micro-morphological traits in species delimitation have demonstrated based on elaiosome appendages size, number of lobes and their sculpture, seed surface sculpture and trichome type.

The only male specimens of this species were collected in 1930 from a bamboo forest in Aranya Prathet district, now Sa Kaeo Province, Thailand. Both male and female plants were rediscovered in Surat Thani Province, upper Peninsular Thailand during 2015-2020. In this work, we provide an emended description, detailed ecological data, photographs, and illustrations of recently collected specimens. We performed lectotypification and investigated the phylogenetic placement and sister taxa of D. bambuseti based on the DNA sequences of eight plastid regions. D. bambuseti is closely related to D. ehretioides, D. fasiculosa, and D. venosa. Finally, we provide a detailed morphological comparison of D. bambuseti with related species.

A new Paypayrola (Violaceae) from Panama, with notes about the species complexes for the genus

查看更多>>摘要:A new species of Paypayrola is described from multiple exsiccatae from west-central and east-central Panama. Paypayrola panamensis sp. nov. is represented by dozens of herbarium specimens from 26 putatively distinct populations located at lower elevations on the northern slope, in wet evergreen tropical forest on slopes and ridgetops, as well as along streams and rivers. By in its moderately short-petiolate leaves and yellow corollas, the new species resembles northern South American P. guianensis and P. hulkiana. It differs from P. guianensis in its proportionally longer leaf blades, subsessile to short-pedunculate, short inflorescences, and puberulent sepals longer than broad. It differs from P. hulkiana in its proportionally broader leaf blades, and proportionally broader elliptical to suborbicular sepals, commonly with two (rarely four) distinct lateral nerves besides the medial nerve, and a broadly rounded to frequently truncate or retuse apex. The new species also differs from both in its larger leaf blades with more lateral nerves, tapering to a narrowly rounded or weakly subattenuate apex, and a more densely flowered inflorescence. A key differentiating it from other species of Paypayrola is provided. In discussing the genus, three species complexes are well separated based on corolla color and inflorescence features.

Dioscorea magnibracteata (Dioscoreaceae), a new species from western Ecuador based on the unpublished work of Temple Clayton

查看更多>>摘要:Dioscorea magnibracteata is described and formally presented as a new species based on specimens identified with unpublished names by Temple Clayton. This species occurs exclusively in the seasonally deciduous dry tropical forest of coastal Ecuador, a fairly threatened environment. This new species is monoecious and features staminate flowers with six stamens but differs markedly from all other species of Neotropical Dioscorea by the staminate inflorescences with very large cymbiform bracts and toothed to lacerated margin. We provide a morphological description as well as information on habitat, geographic distribution and taxonomic comments that include the morphological delimitation of the new species and similarities to other species of Dioscorea sect. Monadelpha.
