According to news reporting originating from Stanford, California, by Ne wsRx correspondents, research stated, “Caves and lava tubes on the Moon and Mars are sites of geological and astrobiological interest but consist of terrain tha t is inaccessible with traditional robot locomotion. To support the exploration of these sites, we present ReachBot, a robot that uses extendable booms as appen dages to manipulate itself with respect to irregular rock surfaces.”

According to news reporting out of Lages, Brazil, by NewsRx edito rs, research stated, “The Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest presents great diversity of flora and stand structures, making it difficult for traditional forest inven tories to collect reliable and recurrent information to classify forest successi on stages. In recent years, remote sensing data have been explored to save time and effort in classifying successional forest stages.”

According to news report ing from Trondheim, Norway, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, “We aimed to develop the first machine learning models to predict citation counts and the tr anslational impact, defined as inclusion in guidelines or policy documents, of h eadache research, and assess which factors are most predictive. Bibliometric dat a and the titles, abstracts, and keywords from 8600 publications in three headac he-oriented journals from their inception to 31 December 2017 were used.”

According to news reporting out of Liaoning, People’s Republic of China, by NewsRx editors, research stated, “This study investigated the physicochemical an d flavor quality changes in fresh-cut papaya that was stored at 4 °C.” The news journalists obtained a quote from the research from Shenyang Agricultur al University: “Multivariate statistical analysis was used to evaluate the fresh ness of fresh-cut papaya. Aerobic plate counts were selected as a predictor of f reshness of fresh-cut papaya, and a prediction model for freshness was establish ed using partial least squares regression (PLSR), and support vector machine reg ression (SVMR) algorithms. Freshness of fresh-cut papaya could be well distingui shed based on physicochemical and flavor quality analyses. The aerobic plate cou nts, as a predictor of freshness of fresh-cut papaya, significantly correlated w ith storage time. The SVMR model had a higher prediction accuracy than the PLSR model.”

According to news reporting originating in Nanjing , People’s Republic of China, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, “In this w ork, visible and near-infrared ‘point’ (Vis-NIR) spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging (Vis- NIR-HSI) techniques were applied on three different apple cultivars to compare their firmness prediction performances based on a large intra-variab ility of individual fruit, and develop rapid and simple models to visualize the variability of apple firmness on three apple cultivars. Apples with high degree of intra-variability can strongly affect the prediction model performances.”
