This innovative approach allows the robot to attain the traditional 6 degrees of freedom in the hip joint while using only four motors. This design not only enhances energy efficiency and battery life but also safeguards all vu lnerable motor reducers. Moreover, the double-slider leg design enables the robo t to simulate knee bending and leg height adjustment through leg extension. This simulation can be mathematically modeled as a linear inverted pendulum (LIP), r endering the L04 Robot a versatile platform for research into bipedal robot moti on control."

According to news reporting originating from Tianjin, People's Republic of China, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, "Physically compliant actu ator brings significant benefits to robots in terms of environmental adaptabilit y, humanrobot interaction, and energy efficiency as the introduction of the inh erent compliance. However, this inherent compliance also limits the force and po sition control performance of the actuator system due to the induced oscillation s and decreased mechanical bandwidth." Financial support for this research came from National Natural Science Foundatio n of China (NSFC). Our news editors obtained a quote from the research from Tianjin University, "To solve this problem, we first investigate the dynamic effects of implementing va riable physical damping into a compliant actuator. Following this, we propose a structural scheme that integrates a variable damping element in parallel to a co nventional series elastic actuator. A damping regulation algorithm is then devel oped for the parallel spring-damping actuator (PSDA) to tune the dynamic perform ance of the system while remaining sufficient compliance." According to the news editors, the research concluded: "Experimental results sho w that the PSDA offers better stability and dynamic capability in the force and position control by generating appropriate damping levels."

According to news reporting originating in Bangkok, T hailand, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, "In the developmental stage of minimal-accessed nipple-sparing mastectomy (MA-NSM), selecting patients with sma ll to mediumsized breasts was common for better cosmetic outcomes and oncologic al safety. However, the suitability of MA-NSM for large, ptotic breasts remained uncertain." The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from Chulalongkorn Univers ity, "This retrospective study aim to assess MA-NSM outcomes in patients with la rge breasts. This retrospective study included patients receiving conventional N SM (C-NSM) and MA-NSM from January 2011 to September 2022, at a single instituti on. We analyzed perioperative parameters and clinical outcomes based on breast s pecimen size, classified as small ( 300 g), medium (>300 -450 g), large (>450-600 g), and very large (> 600 g). A total of 728 patients was enrolled. C-NSM was performed in 51% (371/728) of cases, while MANSM was done in 49% (357/728). The ov erall complication rate of MA-NSM was comparable to C-NSM (p = 0.573), but sever e complications (Clavien-Dindo, CD III) was significantly reported more followin g C-NSM, regardless of breast size. During a median follow-up of 52 months, no s ignificant difference in oncological outcomes was observed. Comparing MA-NSM and C-NSM outcomes in large-very large breasts (>450 g), MA -NSM demonstrated significantly less blood loss (p = 0.036) and lower incidence of severe complications (CD III) compared to C-NSM (p = 0.002)."

According to news reporting from New York City, New York, by NewsRx j ournalists, research stated, "In this paper, we study champions of corporate soc ial responsibility (CSR) performance among the U.S. publicly traded firms and th eir common characteristics by utilizing machine learning algorithms to identify predictors of firms' CSR activity." The news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from Fordham Universi ty, "We contribute to the CSR and leadership determinants literature by introduc ing the first comprehensive framework for analyzing the factors associated with corporate engagement with socially responsible behaviors by grouping all relevan t predictors into four broad categories: corporate governance, managerial incent ives, leadership, and firm characteristics. We find that strong corporate govern ance characteristics, as manifested in board member heterogeneity and managerial incentives, are the top predictors of CSR performance."

The news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from Yantai Universit y, "Concatenating the tracking error with the desired trajectory, the tracking c ontrol problem is converted into a time-invariant optimal control problem of an augmented system. Then, an approximate optimal tracking controller is obtained b y applying online actor-critic synchronous learning algorithm. With the help of Lyapunov-based analysis, the ultimately bounded tracking can be guaranteed."

According to news reporting from Fez, Morocco, by New sRx journalists, research stated, "In autonomous driving systems, object detecti on plays a pivotal role by facilitating their ability to perceive the surroundin g road environment effectively." The news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from University of Si di Mohamed Ben Abdellah: "Object detection's foremost challenge pertains to its real-time operational capabilities. Achieving this necessitates reducing the det ectors' computational complexity while preserving their accuracy. Nevertheless, most of the approach in object detection involves dividing image processing over multiple heads, each tasked with detecting objects at particular scales. Even t hough this approach improves detection accuracy, it adds an extra computational burden. In this study, our objective is to assess the feasibility of employing a single head within the originally multi-headed architecture of the FCOS detecto r. In response to the challenges posed by this significant modification, we prop ose a set of straightforward solutions, resulting in the development of a novel Fully Convolutional One-Stage with a Single Head (FCOSH) detector."

According to news reporting out of Seoul, South Korea, by NewsRx edito rs, research stated, "Analyzing floor surface materials is critical for controll ing the motion and tasks of mobile robots. In this study, we propose a novel met hod for classifying floor materials for indoor mobile robots using a piezoelectr ic actuator-sensor pair and deep learning." Financial supporters for this research include National Research Foundation of K orea (Nrf) Grant; Korea Ministry of Science And Ict. The news journalists obtained a quote from the research from Korea University: " This method can classify the floor properties itself with isolated sensing syste m while the mobile robot is moving. The piezoelectric pair is a thin-film type. It consists of an actuator and a sensor. The sensing pair is positioned at the b ottom of the robot. When the robot moves forward, the sensing part collects the electrical responses from the actuator. Since one-dimensional data is collected through the piezoelectric actuatorsensor pair, the size of the system is small and the data processing speed can be reduced. Using this mechanism, experiments were conducted to classify various materials of floor surfaces in indoor environ ments. The sensing data were processed by fast Fourier transform, high-pass filt er, polynomial fitting, and sampling to be used as inputs for machine learning o f the classification model. Specifically, the trained model achieved a high accu racy of 95.4%."

According to news reporting originating in Bilthov en, Netherlands,by NewsRx journalists, research stated, "Risk assessment of che micals is a time-consuming process and needs to be optimized to ensure all chemi cals are timely evaluated and regulated. This transition could be stimulated by valuable applications of in silico Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) models." The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from National Institute fo r Public Health and the Environment, "However, implementation of AI/ML models in risk assessment is lagging behind. Most AI/ML models are considered ‘black boxe s' that lack mechanistical explainability, causing risk assessors to have insuff icient trust in their predictions. Here, we explore ‘trust' as an essential fact or towards regulatory acceptance of AI/ML models. We provide an overview of the elements of trust, including technical and beyond-technical aspects, and highlig ht elements that are considered most important to build trust by risk assessors. The results provide recommendations for risk assessors and computational modele rs for future development of AI/ML models, including: 1) Keep models simple and interpretable; 2) Offer transparency in the data and data curation; 3) Clearly d efine and communicate the scope/intended purpose; 4) Define adoption criteria; 5 ) Make models accessible and user-friendly; 6) Demonstrate the added value in pr actical settings; and 7) Engage in interdisciplinary settings."
