查看更多>>摘要:The difference in microstructure leads to the diversity of shale mechanical properties and bedding fractures distribution patterns. In this paper, the microstructure and mechanical properties of Longmaxi marine shale and Qingshankou continental shale were studied by X-ray diffractometer(XRD),field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM)with mineral analysis system, and nanoindentation.Additionally, the typical bedding layers area was properly stratified using Focused Ion Beam(FIB),and the effects of microstructure and mechanical properties on the distribution patterns of bedding fractures were analyzed. The results show that the Longmaxi marine shale sample contains more clay mineral grains, while the Qingshankou continental shale sample contains more hard brittle mineral grains such as feldspar. For Longmaxi marine shale sample, hard brittle minerals with grain sizes larger than 20 μm is 18.24%and those with grain sizes smaller than 20 μm is 16.22%.For Qingshankou continental shale sample, hard brittle minerals with grain sizes larger than 20 μm is 40.7%and those with grain sizes smaller than 20 μm is 11.82%.In comparison to the Qingshankou continental shale sample, the Longmaxi marine shale sample has a lower modulus, hardness, and heterogeneity.Laminated shales are formed by alternating coarse-grained and fine-grained layers during deposition. The average single-layer thickness of Longmaxi marine shale sample is greater than Qingshankou continental shale sample. The two types of shale have similar bedding fractures distribution patterns and fractures tend to occur in the transition zone from coarse-grained to fine-grained deposition. The orientation of the fracture is usually parallel to the bedding plane and detour occurs in the presence of hard brittle grains. The fracture distribution density of the Longmaxi marine shale sample is lower than that of the Qingshankou continental shale sample due to the strong heterogeneity of the Qingshankou continental shale. The current research provides guidelines for the effective development of shale reservoirs in various sedimentary environments.

查看更多>>摘要:To address the two critical issues of evaluating the necessity of implementing cooling techniques and achieving real-time temperature control of drilling fluids underground in the current drilling fluid cooling technology,we first established a temperature and pressure coupled downhole heat transfer model, which can be used in both water-based and oil-based drilling fluid. Then, fourteen factors, which could affect wellbore temperature, were analyzed.Based on the standard deviation of the downhole temperature corresponding to each influencing factor, the influence of each factor was quantified. The influencing factors that can be used to guide the drilling fluid's cooling technology were drilling fluid thermal conductivity, drilling fluid heat capacity, drilling fluid density, drill strings rotation speed, pump rate, viscosity,ROP,and injection temperature. The nondominated sorting genetic algorithm was used to optimize these six parameters, but the optimization process took 182 min.Combining these eight pa-rameters'influence rules with the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm can reduce the optimization time to 108 s.Theoretically, the downhole temperature has been demonstrated to increase with the inlet temperature increasing linearly under quasi-steady states.Combining this law and PID,the downhole temperature can be controlled, which can reduce the energy for cooling the surface drilling fluid and can ensure the downhole temperature reaches the set value as soon as possible.

Temperature prediction model in multiphase flow considering phase transition in the drilling operations

查看更多>>摘要:The study considers gas compression properties, gas slippage, back pressure(BP),phase transition(PT),well depth, and differences in gas-liquid physical properties.A new temperature model for multiphase flow is proposed by considering phase transition in the drilling process. The mathematical model of multiphase flow is solved using the finite difference method with annulus mesh division for grid nodes, and a module for multiphase flow calculation and analysis is developed.Numerical results indicate that the temperature varies along the annulus with the variation of gas influx at the bottom of the well.During the process of controlled pressure drilling,as gas slips along the annulus to the wellhead, its volume continuously expands, leading to an increase in the gas content within the annulus, and consequently,an increase in the pressure drop caused by gas slippage. The temperature increases with the increase in BP and decreases in gas influx rate and wellbore diameter.During gas influx, the thermal conductivity coefficient for the gas-drilling mud two phases is significantly weakened, resulting in a considerable change in temperature along the annulus. In the context of MPD,the method of slightly changing the temperature along the annulus by controlling the back pressure is feasible.

查看更多>>摘要:During ultradeep oil and gas drilling, fluid loss reducers are highly important for water-based drilling fluids, while preparing high temperature-and salt-resistance fluid loss reducers with excellent rheology and filtration performance remains a challenge.Herein,a micro-crosslinked amphoteric hydrophobic association copolymer(i.e.,DADC)was synthesized using N,N-dimethyl acrylamide, diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride,2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid, hydrophobic monomer, and pen-taerythritol triallyl ether crosslinker.Due to the synergistic effects of hydrogen bonds, electrostatic interaction, hydrophobic association, and micro-crosslinking,the DADC copolymer exhibited outstanding temperature-and salt-resistance.The rheological experiments have shown that the DADC copolymer had excellent shear dilution performance and a certain degree of salt-responsive viscosity-increasing per-formance.The DADC copolymer could effectively adsorb on the surface of bentonite particles through electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonds, which bring more negative charge to the bentonite, thus improving the hydration and dispersion of bentonite particles as well as the colloidal stability of the drilling fluids. Moreover, the drilling fluids constructed based on the DADC copolymer exhibited satis-factory rheological and filtration properties(FLHTHP=12 mL)after aging at high temperatures(up to 200 ℃)and high salinity(saturated salt)environments. Therefore, this work provided new insights into designing and fabricating high-performance drilling fluid treatment agents, demonstrating good po-tential applications in deep and ultradeep drilling engineering.

查看更多>>摘要:To address the challenges associated with difficult casing running, limited annular space, and poor cementing quality in the completion of ultra-deep wells, the extreme line casing offers an effective solution over conventional casings. However, due to its smaller size, the joint strength of extreme line casing is reduced, which may cause failure when running in the hole.To address this issue, this study focuses on the CST-Zr Φ139.7 mm × 7.72 mm extreme line casing and employs the elastic-plastic me-chanics to establish a comprehensive analysis of the casing joint, taking into account the influence of geometric and material nonlinearities.A finite element model is developed to analyze the forces and deformations of the extreme line casing joint under axial tension and external collapse load. The model investigates the stress distribution of each thread tooth subjected to various tensile forces and external pressures.Additionally, the tensile strength and crushing strength of the extreme line casing joint are determined through both analytical and experimental approaches. The findings reveal that, under axial tensile load, the bearing surface of each thread tooth experiences uneven stress, with relatively high equivalent stress at the root of each thread tooth. The end thread teeth are valuable spots for failure. It is observed that the critical fracture axial load of thread decreases linearly with the increase of thread tooth sequence.Under external pressure, the circumferential stress is highest at the small end of the external thread, leading to yield deformation. The tensile strength of the joint obtained from the finite element model exhibits a relative error of less than 7%compared to the analytical and experimental values, proving the reliability of the finite element model. The tensile strength of the joint is 3091.9 kN.Moreover,in terms of anti-collapse capability, the joints demonstrate higher resistance to collapse compared to the casing body, which is consistent with the test results where the pipe body experiences collapse and failure while the joints remain intact during the experiment. The failure load of the casing body under external collapse pressure is 87.4 MPa.The present study provides a basic understanding of the mechanical strengths of extreme line casing joint.

查看更多>>摘要:In extended-reach or long-horizontal drilling, cuttings usually deposit at the bottom of the annulus.Once cuttings accumulate to a certain thickness, complex problems such as excessive torque and drag, tubing buckling, and pipe stuck probably occur, which results in a lot of non-productive time and remedial operations.Cuttings bed remover can efficiently destroy deposited cuttings in time through hydraulic and mechanical stirring effects. This paper aims to build a method for hole cleaning evaluation and installation spacing optimization of cuttings bed remover to improve the wellbore cleaning effect.Firstly,a Computational Fluid Dynamics approach with Eulerian-Eulerian multiphase model was utilized to investigate the mechanism of cuttings transportation, and a new type of cuttings bed remover was designed.Next,an evaluation method of hole cleaning effect of remover was established. After that, the effects of several drilling parameters on hole cleaning including flow rate of drilling fluid, rotational speed of drillpipe, rate of penetration, wellbore size, rheological property of drilling fluid, and remover eccentricity on the performance of cuttings bed remover were investigated. The results demonstrate that the new type of remover with streamline blade performs better than conventional removers. The effi-ciency of hole cleaning is greatly improved by increasing the rotational speed of drillpipe, flow rate of drilling fluid, remover eccentricity, and 6 rpm Fann dial reading for drilling fluid. While higher rate of penetration and large wellbore size result in worse hole cleaning. These findings can serve as an important guide for the structure optimization design of cuttings bed remover and installation spacing of removers.

Mechanical characteristics and reservoir stimulation mechanisms of the Gulong shale oil reservoirs, the northern Songliao Basin

查看更多>>摘要:Elastomer sealing performance is of critical importance for downhole tools application including the use of fracturing(Frac)plugs during multi-stage hydraulic fracking. In practice sealing performances of such plugs are normally evaluated through pressure tests, and in numerical simulation studies, maximum contact stress, average contact stress and contact length data are used to determine sealing quality between a packer and casing. In previous studies, the impact of friction forces on sealing performance is often overlooked. This work aims to fill this knowledge gap in determining the influence of friction forces on elastomer packer sealing performances. We first determined the most appropriate constitutive hyperelastic model for the elastomers used in frac plug. Then we compared analytical calculation results with Finite Element Analysis simulation using a simplified tubular geometry and showed the significant influences on interfacial friction on elastomer packer stress distribution, deformation, and contact stress after setting. With the demonstration of validity of FEA method,we conducted systematic numerical simulation studies to show how the interfacial friction coefficients can affect the maximum contact stress, average contact stress, contact stress distribution, and maximum mises stress for an actual packer used in plug products. In addition,we also demonstrated how the groove in a packer can affect packer deformation and evolvement during setting with the consideration of interfacial stress. This study un-derscores the critical role that friction forces play in Frac plug performance and provides a new dimension for optimizing packer design by controlling interfacial interactions at the packer contact surfaces.
