An Interpretation of the Development of'Thangka-based Painted Symbolic Patterns and Signs for Divination'in the Bonist Folk Practice——Illustrated by Ageyongzhong's Collections in Gami Temple in the County of Songpan,Sichuan Province
'Thangka-based Painted Symbolic Patterns and Signs for Divination 'collected by Ageyongzhong of the Gami Temple in the County of Songpan,Sichuan province serve as a case study in this paper;whereas their histori-cal origin,artistic characteristics,making techniques,as well as development and future trends in modern society are further examined. A detailed interpretation of such precious cultural relics facilitate a full command of the histor-ical background of Bonist divining culture,and an exploration of their value and meaning in modern society. Ap-plied research methods in this paper are literature consultation and collection,fieldwork and interviews:literature having disclosed historical origin and development of Bonist divining culture,while fieldwork and interviews having presented the making techniques and artistic features of the'Thangka-based painted symbolic patterns and signs for divination'.
