Academic methods of literature,mathematical statistics,quantitative analysis,and comparative analysis are applied in this paper to study the field results in the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou,to review the existing competi-tive situation of Asian athletics and to assess where Chinese athletics belongs at this stage.Research results show that the competitive performance of Asian athletics is significantly imbalanced,with East Asia having a decided ad-vantage in speed-strength events,West Asia having a noticeable advantage in endurance-speed events.The overall field competitive level of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou is slightly lower than that of the 18th Asian Games Jakarta.Chinese athletic competitive ability keeps declining in the world.In the final analysis,the author holds that athletics development needs to focus on cultivating competitive sports thinking,to continuously target field events on society and market,and to incessantly push forward the integration of sports and education.
