Based on the theories of cultural symbol,this paper has probed into the Miao hand shuttlecock in south Si-chuan,into the relationship between the signifier-an explicit materialized form,and the signified-an implicit cul-tural memory,aiming to provide a reference for building an internal mechanism for the Miao traditional sports cultur-al memory.The Miao shuttlecock's explicit exquisite appearance and ingenious crafts of making are of unique visual aesthetic feelings and aesthetic experience.The shuttlecock brings joyful physical practice and athletic feelings;its playing shows that human beings are not only a creator but also a consumer of such a cultural symbol.The Miao shuttlecock implies that change occurs in the production and life,marriage systems and traditional ideologies and culture throughout the history of the Miao's growth.It is an epitome of arduous migration the Miao's ancestry,re-flecting their wishes and aspirations for a beautiful life.The shuttlecock in sacrificial ceremonies and folk festival celebrations gives full play to romantic charm and beauty in form,bonds the Miao's collective memory and their e-motional resonance.
