Numerical Simulation of Whole Rolling Process of Round Tube Blanks for Making Seamless Pipes
To solve the problem that some surface defects of continuous casting billets could be inherited to the surface of the round tube blanks during the rolling process into round tubes, resulting in reject products in the subsequent rolling process of steel tubes, those sections of rolled pieces and their strain distributions were analyzed in the process of rough rolling by 10 rolling passes and subsequent finish rolling by three-stand continuous rolling based on ANSYS/LS-DYNA finite element simulation software, combined with numerical simulations of the whole rolling process, which intended to track the key points on the blank and accurately determined the corresponding positions of finished products at specific locations on the same blank after rolling. The analytical results indicated that the inner arcs of the casting round tube blanks corresponding to the finished products after rolling located at 93.6° on the left of the rolling direction, which provided important reference for further optimizing the production process for seamless steel tubes and therefore the geometric accuracy and quality of the finished products could be controlled accurately.
