As an important type of carbonate particles, oncolite is the focus of sedimentological research. For a long time, scholars at home and abroad have used different terms to describe and classify oncolite, such as algal ooid, onkoid, etc. On the basis of previous studies and a follow-up field investigation, this paper conducted a rock thin-section study of oncolites from the Chuanshan Formation in the Su-Wan area using polarizing microscope. According to the arrangement of the laminae of the oncolite, the geometric morphology of the oncolite is divided into four types. It is believed that the different laminated textures reflect the changes of the environmental and hydrodynamic conditions during the period of oncolite growth.
