English reading comprehension emphasizes on testing the students＇ reading comprehension ability and data acquisition ability from printed materials of different subject matters and forms.Reading comprehension ability,to most of the English learners who take English as a foreign language,is the commonest skill in using the language,because reading is the main gateway in language accumulation and input and holds an important position in the four basic skills of language learning,namely listening,speaking,reading,and translating.It is easy to find out that reading comprehension takes up a big portion in all kinds of domestic and international language tests,which proves that reading comprehension ability is the main aspect in checking out the achievements of the learners.To cultivate students＇ reading comprehension ability has been an emphasis in English teaching all along and it puts forward a higher level for the students to meet.We need a large amount of reading practice and theoretical instruction to improve our reading skills.Reading is to extract data from a writing system and the readers is to carry out some kind of complex psychological activities,such as association,presumption,deduction,and evaluation etc.our students,however,are puzzled in reading because of their poor language foundation,inferior reading skills and bad habits in reading.This paper intends to illustrate the development tendency and importance of enhancing the student＇s reading program and cultivating good reading habits.
