Study on the Strength Defects and Damage Mechanism of Ancient Trees
Having lived for hundreds of years, there may be different degrees of safety risks in ancient trees. The defects that constitute these safety risks are called strength defects, which reduce the ability of ancient trees to resist wind and snow loads. In this paper, the strength defects of ancient trees are classified into three types:holes from decay, structural defects, and dead cracks. A mechanical analysis was also made on how the strength defects affect the strength and stability of ancient trees with an elaboration on the damage modes and mechanical mechanism, so as to provide reference for conservation and restoration of ancient trees.
