Effects of Light Conditions on the Leaf Color Change of Nandina domestica in Different Types of Greenbelt
Nandina domesticais a common evergreen ornamental foliage and fruit shrub often planted in clusters to form color blocks and patterns of different shapes with ornamental value in landscaping. In this paper, color blocks of the species planted in clusters in 3 types of greenbelts including urban road greenbelt, public greenbelt and greenbelt affiliated with an entity were the survey objects and the leaf color change of the blocks were observed and surveyed for years to find out the main environmental factors causing the change. The results showed that the leaf color of the species changed with environmental variations in a circle as follows:from green to red, then from red to green again. In the growing period with light shading, the leaf color could effectively turned red.In the dormancy period with light or moderate shading, the leaf color could both turned red effectively with good ornamental value. The study results could pro-vide reference for rational allocation of the species in greening practice by landscaping practitioners and give full play to the species in its ornamental value.
