Review of soilless cultivation techniques for cherry tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes are bright in color, good in taste, rich in vitamins, lycopene, and glutathione, and are one of the favored fruits by consumers, possessing considerable market potential, with the area of greenhouse cultivation continuously expanding. This paper provides a review of the effects of variety and substrate selection, irrigation methods, and pollination methods on the growth, yield, and quality of cherry tomatoes in greenhouse cultivation, aiming to provide references for the greenhouse cultivation production of cherry tomatoes. The analysis reveals that selecting suitable cherry tomato varieties and promoting the application of soilless cultivation technology play a significant role in improving the production efficiency of cherry tomatoes. In production, utilizing novel substrate materials such as biochar made from agricultural and forestry waste resources can achieve the sustainable development of soilless cultivation technology for cherry tomatoes. In irrigation, methods such as precise monitoring and control of soil moisture content or a combination of drip irrigation with increased oxygenation and tidal irrigation can significantly increase the yield and quality of greenhouse cherry tomatoes. Moreover, introducing pollinators such as bumblebees in greenhouse cultivation positively contributes to increasing the fruit setting rate, yield, and quality of cherry tomatoes.
