Photosynthetic characteristics of different-age needles of the Pinus dabeshanensis plantation forest
To compare the differences of photosynthetic parameters in different-age needles of a rare and endangered plant,Pinus dabeshanensis, and explore the relationship between photosynthetic parameters and biotic factors including plant size and needle age.Artificially planted 15-year-old Pinus dabeshanensis individuals in the hinterland of the Dabie Mountains,Yuexi County,Anhui Province were chosen as the experimental material, and eight photosynthetic parameters of 1-,2-,and 3-year-old needles were determined. The results showed that the net photosynthetic rate(Pn),stomatal conductance(Gs),intercellular CO2 concentration(Ci),transpiration rate(Tr),stomatal limitation(Ls),water use efficiency(WUE),CO2 use efficiency(CUE),and light use efficiency(LUE)were different among needles with different ages, whereas the change trends of these parameters were not completely consistent.Among them, the Ls and WUE of the 2-year-old needles were the highest, whereas the Ci was the lowest. The other five parameters of the 3-year-old needles were the lowest. The Pn,Gs,Tr,CUE,and LUE were negatively correlated with crown diameter and needle age,and the needle water content also showed a decreasing trend with increasing needle age.
