Teaching strategies for animal and plant quarantine under the wave of bioinformatics
The rapid rise of bioinformatics had led to the increasing popularity of bioinformatics technologies such as high-throughput sequencing, biological big data, professional databases, and multi-dimensional omics. This discipline was deeply integrated with life sciences such as medicine, biology, and agriculture. In practice, few agricultural and forestry colleges had established undergraduate talent training systems for animal and plant quarantine majors, and there was still room for improvement in the specialized bioinformatics basic courses. Some existing course offerings were no longer fully in line with the requirements of professional talent training in the future information technology background. This article analyzed the reasons for the lack of cross integration between animal and plant quarantine teaching and bioinformatics, and proposes teaching reform suggestions from four aspects, including improving importance awareness, updating curriculum system, building teacher resources, and constructing teaching cases.
