Screening of low-cadmium accumulation rice varieties
Utilizing rice varieties with low cadmium accumulation is one of the primary strategies for achieving safe, efficient, and sustainable production in slightly cadmium-contaminated paddy field. In this study, rice varieties with low cadmium accumulation were screened for a period of 2 years, and cadmium content and transport capacity of rice were analyzed. The results indicated that there were significant differences in cadmium accumulation characteristics among the rice varieties. Compared to conventional rice, hybrid varieties demonstrated higher capacities for cadmium accumulation and translocation. In 2021, the cadmium content in the rice varieties tested ranged from 0.154 to 0.531 mg/kg,with translocation coefficients ranging from 0.51 to 1.89; in 2022, these figures were 0.024 to 0.346 mg/kg and 0.08 to 1.31, respectively. Throughout the two-year variety selection trial, the hybrid rice Yongyou 15, the conventional rice varieties Shaonuo 9714, and Ning 88 adapted well to the local environmental conditions and exhibited lower characteristics of cadmium accumulation, making them suitable for promotion and cultivation in slightly cadmium-contaminated farmlands. The findings of this study provided a reference for the selection of varieties for the safe use of slightly cadmium-contaminated farmlands in the local area.
