The impact of innovative city construction on digital technology innovation of manufacturing enterprises
Based on the data of listed manufacturing firms in China from 2004 to 2022,this paper assesses the impact of innovative city construction on digital technology innovation of manufacturing firms by using the progressive DID methodology as a quasi-natural experiment based on the pilot of national innovative cities,and explores the mechanism of its role.It is found that national innovative city construction has a significant promotion effect on digital technology innovation of manufacturing firms.The mechanism test shows that innovative city construction can promote digital technology innovation of manufacturing firms through two paths:financial support and talent support.This paper analyzes the heterogeneity of the digital innovation effect of innovative city construction from the aspects of firm size and firm media attention,and the results show that innovative city construction has a more obvious role in promoting digital technology innovation of large-scale enterprises and manufacturing firms with higher media attention.The findings of this paper have certain policy implications for promoting the deep integration of digital technology and the real economy,accelerating the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry and its innovative development,seizing the commanding heights of the competition among great powers in the era of the digital economy,and comprehensively realizing the major strategy of"Innovative China".
